Passenger ship with 250 people disabled, adrift in Bay of Bengal
Passenger ship KAJAL with 250 passengers on board was disabled in the afternoon Jan 15 near Saint Martin s Island, southernmost Bangladesh, while en route from Saint Martin s to Teknaf port, mainland Bangladesh. At night Jan 15 she was still drifting, awaiting another vessel of KAJAL s owner company, KUTUBDIA (IMO 8012712). As of 0530 UTC Jan 16, situation is unknown. Russian Master blamed for collision at Brake, Germany
General cargo ship PEIKKO collided with berthed bulk carrier at around 1430 UTC Jan 15 while leaving Brake, Germany, bound for Aarhus Denmark. Both ships sustained damages, PEIKKO was allowed to continue voyage after inspection and security deposit, because Russian Master was found guilty of causing collision by miscalculating current and wind strength. PEIKKO resumed sailing at around 1930 UTC Jan 15, but early in the morning Jan 16 she interrupted her voyage and headed for Cuxhaven. At 0630 UTC Jan 16 she was approaching Cuxhaven. The reason for this is yet unknown either she suffered more serious damages than estimated, or she was ordered to call German port because of investigation.

FPSO CIDADE DE MARICA fire, Santos Basin
Fire erupted in transformers compartment of FPSO CIDADE DE MARICA, positioned at Santos Basin offshore, Brazil, in the morning Jan 16. Fire was extinguished in about an hour by FPSO s personnel with standard firefighting equipment, damages said to be minimal, but production was halted, nevertheless. Safety survey and checks were to be carried out before restarting production.
