Report: Deadly Blaze Hits Two Ships off Kerch Strait
At least ten seafarers have died after two ships burst into flames in the Black Sea near the Kerch Strait on January 21, according to local media reports.
The incident allegedly occurred during fuel transfer operations between the two Tanzania-flagged vessels, identified as Candy and Maestro, Russian state news agency TASS said. Data provided by MarineTraffic shows that the ships in question are LPG tankers.

Celebrity Flora Hits the Water at Shipyard De Hoop
Shipyard De Hoop has launched Celebrity Cruises new expedition cruise vessel named Celebrity Flora from its yard in Lobith-Tolkamer, the Netherlands.
The 333 ft (101 metres) long and 5,739 ton-vessel can achieve a cruising speed of 10-14 knots.

Monjasa Upgrades Panama Canal s Bunker Fleet
Danish bunker company Monjasa has decided to introduce a larger and more modern tanker for bunkering activities in the Panama Canal.
As part of the company s move to rejuvenate the overall Panama Canal bunker fleet, Monjasa deployed the 2010-built, 8,800 dwt tanker Accra in the waterway.

Salamis Lines to Expand Fleet with RoRo Ship
Cyprus-based shipping company Salamis Lines has signed an agreement to acquire a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel.
Salamis said the vessel has a gross capacity of 20,831 tons, without disclosing any further details.

OOCL: No Plan to Order New Ships at the Moment
Hong Kong-based container shipping and logistics service company Orient Overseas Container Line Limited (OOCL) doesn t plan to order any new ships at the moment.
Stephen Ng, Director of Trades at OOCL, said this in a statement to World Maritime News when asked about the rumored 23,000 TEU sextet order.

Stena Line Ferry in Near Miss with Royal Navy Submarine
A Stena Line ferry recently had a close quarters encounter with a nuclear-powered Royal Navy submarine, according to the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB).
The company s 30,285 gross ton Stena Superfast VII, which operates between Northern Ireland and Scotland, had a near miss with the submarine operating at periscope depth in the Irish Sea.

ASC to Design, Extend Vancouver Port s Container Terminal
ACS Group, through its affiliate Dragados, has been awarded a large-scale project for the design and construction of Vancouver Fraser Authority Port s container terminal extension in Canada.
As informed, the project is intended to extend the terminal s surface and to rearrange it towards increasing its capacity from the current 900,000 to 1.5 million TEUs annually.

NGOs Call for Ban of Scrubbers in European ECAs
A coalition of non-governmental organizations is pushing for a ban of exhaust gas cleaning systems in European emission control areas (ECAs).
A number of organizations, including Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU), France Nature Environnement (FNE), BirdLife Malta and others, have called for a ban of heavy fuel oil and consequently a ban of scrubbers.

Poland s Szczecin Best Performing Port in BIMCO s Dry Bulk Terminals Report
The best performing port in BIMCO s Dry Bulk Terminals Vetting Report 2018 is Szczecin in Poland, the world s largest international shipping association said.
The report collected input from 144 ships covering 381 terminals. A total of 97% of the reports were rated as average or better, which gave an average rating of 3.6 out of five.

Apapa Road Construction Excites Port Users
Port stakeholders have commended the construction company handling the two-kilometre Apapa Wharf road as the construction of the road nears completion and ready for use.
The reconstruction, which ignited the chronic and dreaded gridlock at Apapa began two years ago, and defeated all solutions, including the Presidential directive of a 48hour to free the road, after an earlier directive of the Lagos Government failed.

Lithuania LNG port aims to be Baltic hub, double flows
Lithuania s Klaipeda liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal will more than double its LNG volumes once gas pipelines to Poland and Finland open after 2021, turning the Baltic port into a regional supply hub, its operator said in an interview.
The import facility, named "Independence", was built in Klaipeda port in 2014 to break the monopoly of Russia s Gazprom over gas supplies to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, Baltic countries formerly ruled from Moscow.

Qingdao Port lists on Shanghai Stock Exchange
Qingdao Port International Co Ltd, operator of the world s seventh busiest port by shipping volume, was officially listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
The company s stock price surged by 44.03 percent to reach 6.64 yuan ($0.98) per share shortly after the stock market opened and remained at the upper limit for IPO share price growth for the rest of the trading time.
