AG&P Invests in Kanfer Shipping to Make LNG More Accessible
LNG logistics company Atlantic Gulf & Pacific (AG&P) has revealed an equity investment in Norway-based developer of small-scale LNG sea transportation Kanfer Shipping.
AG&P and Kanfer, which deals in maritime break-bulk solutions, floating storage facilities as well as LNG bunkering, said they would make LNG "more accessible and commercially viable for downstream customers in new and growing natural gas markets."
The parties would offer project owners and customers a fully integrated solution comprising LNG supply, large-scale LNG transportation, large-scale floating storage (FSU), small-scale LNG shipping for downstream distribution, small-scale FSU and other.
Kanfer has captured the attention of the global LNG maritime infrastructure industry with its patented barge design that makes breaking bulk cargoes of LNG easier, faster and more efficient. The small-scale solution uses the patented Detachable Stern Vessel (DSV) design to make an advanced version of the commonly used Articulated Tug Barge (ATB). The DSV transports LNG to and from an FSU, FSRU or land-based LNG terminals via a small and maneuverable barge that brings LNG to drop-points up rivers and along coasts.
"AG&P s goal is to bring LNG to new markets. One of the missing links has been the capability to break-bulk LNG affordably. Kanfer s designs unlock these new markets and solve a critical gap in the LNG supply chain for nascent and growing markets," Karthik Sathyamoorthy, President of LNG Terminals and Logistics at AG&P, said.
Kanfer is already coordinating with global LNG companies to provide solutions to deliver LNG from FSUs to small demand centers or remote markets. Earlier this year, ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) Shipping & Logistics entered a cooperation in the small-scale LNG segment with Kanfer, while Japan s INPEX CORPORATION joined the cooperation later.

IMO s GreenVoyage-2050 Project Gets USD 4.3 Mn Boost from Norway
Norway has provided an additional NOK 40 million (USD 4.3. million) to the IMO-Norway GreenVoyage-2050 project, a project aiming at supporting greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions.
The new tranche follows the initial funding of NOK 10 million for the project, provided by Norway earlier this year.
Launched in May 2019, the GreenVoyage-2050 project is in line with the International Maritime Organization s initial strategy for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from shipping and supports the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13 on climate action.
"Norway is very pleased to enhance our financial commitments to support IMO s efforts to build capacity and to provide technical assistance to support the IMO initial GHG strategy," Sveinung Oftedal, Specialist Director of the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment, said after signing the agreement for additional funding with IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim on November 13.
"We will continue our efforts to further support the GreenVoyage-2050 project, considering the importance of this project to achieve the goals of the IMO GHG strategy."
As explained, the project will assist countries to implement legal, policy and institutional reforms, build capacity and initiate and promote global efforts to demonstrate and test technical solutions for reducing GHG emissions.
The IMO is currently in the process of selecting pioneer pilot countries, new pilot countries, partner countries, industry partners and strategic partners at national, regional and global levels.
GreenVoyage-2050 will run for an initial two-year period, with over 50 countries in 14 sub-regions across the globe expected to take part.

Dutch Salvage Firm to Refloat Grounded Tanker off India
The government of India has selected a Dutch salvage company to salvage the chemical tanker Nu-Shi Nalini which ran aground off Dona Paula at Goa in late October.
The USD 3.4 million contract was awarded to Marine Masters, which was one of only two companies that had submitted bids to undertake the salvage works.
Singapore-based Smit Salvage withdrew its bid on November 12, leaving Marine Masters the only available company for the operations, according to media reports.
The 16,700 dwt Nu-Shi Nalini ran into trouble in adverse weather conditions caused by Cyclone Kyarr, due to which the vessel started to drift from the anchorage off the Port of Mormugao until it ended up aground near Dona Paula. The tanker is reportedly loaded with 3,000 metric tons of naphtha.
The salvage operation is set to last 30 days with the offloading of the tanker’s cargo expected to take 10 to 12 days.

India's first full-fledged global cruise terminal in Kochi
India's first full-fledged international cruise terminal that is coming up at Ernakulam wharf in Willingdon Island will be commissioned in February 2020, Cochin Port Trust (CPT) chairperson M. Beena said on Wednesday.
The ₹25.72-crore cruise terminal with facilities to handle 5,000 tourists will be spread over 12,200 sft.
It will bring under one roof personnel of Customs, Bureau of Immigration and CISF, speeding up paperwork.
"Plans are also afoot to have regular helicopter services from the terminal to different tourist locales in Kerala. Its commissioning will see the revamping of the wharf, an area to stage traditional art forms, and the availability of ATM and food kiosks on the premises. There will also be a permanent space for selling artefacts and others to tourists, aimed at improving visitor experience," she said.
Ms. Beena was addressing the media on board Costa Victoria, an Italian cruise vessel that sailed into Kochi from Venice, with over 2,000 guests. The vessel arrived from Venice for operating in the Indian Ocean region up to March. Socratis Sklavos, captain of the vessel, said Costa would launch its first LNG-powered cruise vessel Costa Smeralda in December.
Task force
On berthing charges at ports, Ms. Beena said it had been unified for all Indian ports post-2017.
"Moreover, a task force, comprising Shipping and Tourism Secretaries, has been set up to promote cruise tourism in the country. We, at Cochin Port, aim to exceed the expectations of domestic and international cruise liners in the coming years and would like many more to dock in God's own Country," she added.
Costa Victoria will operate three- to seven-day packages till March on Kochi-Maldives, Kochi-Mumbai and Mumbai-Maldives routes. The one-way base tariff for the three-day Kochi-Maldives cruise is approximately ₹26,800 for adults and ₹8,200 for those below 18 years of age, inclusive of food and entertainment. This is the fourth season that the vessel is home-porting in Indian waters. It can accommodate 2,400 guests and 800 crew members.
The response to cruise tours from Kochi has been increasing over the years, with the number of tourists (mostly Indians) boarding from the city going up from 200 in 2016 to 800 this year. "An organisation called Indian Cruise Liner Association [INCLA] has been formed to apprise the Centre of steps that should be taken to promote cruise tourism. On its part, Cochin Port Trust introducing electric buggy carts to ferry tourists from the berthing terminal to the vehicle-parking area is a step in the right direction," said Nalini Gupta, head of Costa Cruises in India.
It is noteworthy that around 1.20 million Chinese and 2.30 lakh Indians travelled in cruise ships last year. The number of Keralites opting for cruises is increasing at the rate of 25% each year. They include individuals, families, and corporate groups.
An employee of the vessel, Kedar, who took media persons to amenities spread over 14 floors of the vessel, showed an Indian buffet counter, an arena where Indian dance and art forms are staged, activity spaces which include spaces for live and light music, spa, kids play area, casino, conference room, and theatre.
