Wartsila Automated Shipping Tests Successful
Finnish technology group Wartsila conducted a successful round of tests on its automated dock-to-dock solution. The system was tested on Folgefonn ferry, which visited all three ports serviced by the vessel, with the autonomous operation being utilised uninterrupted for the entire route.

HMM Fully Confident That Its New Mega Boxships Will Be Filled Up
South Korean shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) is confident it will fill up the newly ordered mega containerships.
The twenty scrubber-fitted ships, ordered in September this year, include twelve 23,000 TEU and eight 15,000 TEU boxships, which are expected to be ready for deployment in 2020.

Two Iranians Indicted for Port of San Diego Ransomware Attack
Two Iranian nationals have been indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice for 34-month long ransomware attacks targeting over 200 entities, including most recently the Port of San Diego.
The six-count indictment alleges that Faramarz Shahi Savandi, 34, and Mohammad Mehdi Shah Mansouri, 27, acting from Iran, deployed authored malware, known as SamSam Ransomware, on the computers of hospitals, municipalities, and public institutions, resulting in the encryption of data.

Keel Laid for Norwegian Cruise Line s Newest Ship
Norwegian Cruise Line has celebrated the keel laying for Norwegian Encore, a new ship in the company s Breakaway Pluss class. The keel laying ceremony took place at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany on November 28.
During the ceremony, block 3 of the 169,145 gross ton ship was lowered into position in the shipyard s covered building dock II.

COSCO Shipping Gets "All Clear" to Raise USD 2 Bn
COSCO Shipping Holdings, a subsidiary of China Ocean Shipping Company, has received regulatory approval to raise RMB 15 billion (USD 2.1 billion) intended to repay debt.
The subsidiary of China s largest integrated shipping company said that China s National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors (NAFMII) approved the company s request for registration and issue of the medium-term notes amounting to RMB 5 billion and the super and short-term commercial paper amounting to RMB 10 billion.

Stena Line Cuts Steel for 3rd RoPax for Irish Sea Routes
Swedish ferry company Stena Line has reached an important milestone in its new fleet investment programme with the steel cutting of the third E-Flexer RoPax ship to be deployed on its Irish Sea routes.
With this development, the company said that its new E-Flexer ships, planned to enter into service on the Irish Sea during 2020 and 2021, are on schedule and under construction at the AVIC Weihai Shipyard in China.

Trade Unions Support Portuguese Dockers in Their Fight
The trade unions International Transport Workers Federation, European Transport Workers Federation and German ver.di are teaming up to support Portuguese dockers in their fighting against precarious work.
According to the ETF, the majority of dockers working at the Portuguese port of Setubal have not benefited from a permanent employment contract for the last twenty years.

MV Werften Boosts Shipbuilding Capacity
German builder of large cruise ships MV Werften, bought by Genting Hong Kong Limited in 2016, has put into operation a new welding plant at its Rostock yard.
"The new plant enables us to make a significant increase in the capacity of our steel prefabrication for the Global cruise ships in Rostock and take a further, important step towards Industry 4.0. It is one of the most innovative laser-hybrid panel lines in Europe and also unique, as it is specially tailored to our processes and the Global Class," explained Peter Fetten, CEO of MV Werften.

MMC s net profit jumps 106% on strong port and engineering operations
MMC Corp Bhd posted a higher net profit in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2018 (3Q18), as a result of stronger performances from the port and engineering divisions.
Net profit for the conglomerate rose 106% year-on-year (YoY) to RM38.9 million from the RM18.9 million recorded a year ago.

MMB keen to amend ports policy to attract private investment
Eyeing more private investments in its shipbuilding parks programme, the Maharashtra Maritime Board is mulling amendments to its ports policy of 2016 to increase the lease period to 35 years from the present 10 years.
The board is likely to approve the amendment in December, Maharashta Maritime Board (MMB) nautical advisor Captain Harish Khatri said.
