Fishing vessel with 305 illegal migrants intercepted, multinational crew arrested
Fishing vessel AKTASLAR B was intercepted by Turkish Coast Guard boats in the afternoon Nov 3 in Aegean sea off Canakkale coast. There were 315 people on board, including 10 crew. 305 were illegal migrants, mostly of Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan nationalities. Crew, consisting of 7 Turks, 1 Iranian and 2 Russians, were arrested on the charge of migrants smuggling. AKTASLAR B was taken to Kepez port, Canakkale.

UK-flagged EVER SMART lost 42 containers, circumstances unknown
Container ship EVER SMART lost 42 containers on Oct 30, according to the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch MAIB, which launched an investigation. Vessel is en route from Taipei Taiwan to Los Angeles, USA, containers were lost some 700 nm east of Japan, most probably in rough weather. According to AIS track, EVER SMART didn’t reduce speed on Oct 30, she headed northeast for some time, and then returned to due east course.

Oil leak at Ko Sichang Oil Terminal
Oil leak occurred at night Nov 2 during loading operation of tanker ACS 38 at Ko Sichang Oil Terminal, Sri Racha, Gulf of Thailand. Hose or pipe busted, some 20 tons of heavy oil leaked into water, leak said to cover some 10000 sq meters of sea near Ko Sichang island. Anti-pollution operation was launched with deployment of all relevant agencies. Understood accident wasn’t tanker’s fault.
