India claims detained COSCO ship carried nuclear missile launcher
Feb 18: Indian Security and Customs Agencies found on board of COSCO specialized cargo ship DA CUI YUN, docked at Deendayal Port, Kandla, since Feb 3, some essential parts for missile launchers, capable of launching solid fuel powered nuclear missiles. According to documents, and an industrial dryer of some 18 meters length, but Indian authorities believe it s a part of missile launcher. Investigation continues.

Horrific mortal accident - seaman s hands were torn off by rope ladder
A horrific accident occurred on Kaohsiung Anchorage on Feb 15. A crew of Myanmar nationality was leaving tanker HONG CHING, to return to Myanmar for a leave. He started to descend rope ladder to board tender boat, when suddenly something went wrong - both his hands entangled with rope ladder, probably boat bumped into tanker hull and tugged ladder, not clear. There was a jolt, both his hands up to shoulders were literally torn off, and he fell into water. Nearby workboat quickly picked him up, but he was already dead, either from shock or drowning unconscious.

ICS: Ships Transiting Panama Canal May Face Over 30 Pct Price Hikes
Ships transiting the Panama Canal could face price hikes of over 30% by April 1, 2020, due to new charges imposed by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) said.
Last month, the ACP introduced a series of new measures beginning February 15 to sustain an operational level of water and provide reliability to users while it implements a long-term solution to water.

National Geographic Endurance Aces Sea Trials
The National Geographic Endurance, a new polar expedition ship being built for the US-based cruise company Lindblad Expeditions, has completed sea trials in Storfjorden, Norway, ship builder and designer Ulstein said.
The polar vessel newbuild is soon to return to the shipyard, Ulstein Verft, for the final construction phase before setting off to explore the Arctic.

Slowing World Trade Impacts Port of Rotterdam Volumes
The Port of Rotterdam s freight throughput remained flat in 2019, as growth in international trade lost momentum.
The port saw a freight throughput of 469.4 million tons in 2019, fractionally higher than 469 million tons in 2018.
As explained, significant underlying shifts were observable between the various commodities. Whereas container, crude oil, LNG and biomass throughputs increased, coal and mineral oil product throughputs decreased.

Oman warns of biggest clash risk in Strait of Hormuz
The risk of a military confrontation is higher in the Strait of Hormuz than anywhere else in the Gulf region, Oman s foreign minister said, due in part to the growing number of military vessels from different countries that are guarding it.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimated that 18.5 million barrels per day of seaborne oil passed through the waterway in 2016 between Iran and Oman, 33 kilometers wide at its narrowest point.

Waterways become climate-neutral transport routes of the future
E.ON, Rotterdam Port Authority and Delta Port Niederrheinhafen are partnering up to make conditions conducive to switching inland shipping in Germany and Europe from diesel to battery and/or hydrogen drives. The companies agreed today in Essen to develop an infrastructure so that freight and passenger ships with climate-neutral propulsion can exchange battery containers or refuel hydrogen in the ports.

DP World to Delist from Nasdaq Dubai
DP World s parent company Port and Free Zone World has offered to acquire the 19.55 per cent of DP World s shares traded on Nasdaq Dubai, returning the company to private ownership.

Panama Canal implements water tax on ships
Ships passing through The Panama Canal began paying a water tax of up ro $10,000 on Saturday February 15 .
For the use of fresh water they will pay , to enable the Canal authority (ACP) face the shortage derived from the climate crisis and to finance future plans to ensure its full disposition.
