Tanker with multinational crew suspect in arms trading in Gulf of Aden
Djibouti Security Service is suspecting tanker RED SEA 1 in arms trafficking in Gulf of Aden, claiming that the ship is tampering with her tracking records to hide calls to Horn of Africa coast ports, in Puntland and Somalia, and Yemen. The ship is trading in Gulf of Aden with regular visits to Djibouti, and track data indeed, shows only Djibouti calls, since at least Mar 2019. The crew includes Georgian, Cameroonian, Romanian, Russian and local nationalities.

Freighter disabled, ordered to contract Abeille, Bay of Biscay
General cargo ship RMS WANHEIM reported propulsion failure at around 0800 UTC Mar 16 in Biscay Bay SW of Brest, while en route from Rotterdam to Psajes Spain with cargo of steel. Crew tried to fix the problem, the ship being monitored by MRCC Corsen France. By 2030 UTC the ship was still disabled, drifting, owner had to comply with French Maritime Authorities request or order to sign towage contract with Societe Abeilles, and hire tug ABEILLE BOURBON for towage. Tug was already nearby, towage commenced at around 2030 UTC, RMS WANHEIM is to be towed to Brest. As of 0430 UTC Mar 17, caravan was under way to Brest, ETA Mar 17.

Panamax bulk carrier disabled in Bosphorus, Istanbul.
Bulk carrier TYCOON suffered engine failure while transiting Bosphorus in northern direction in Beykoz area, Istanbul, around 2015 UTC Mar 16. She was taken under control by tug or tugs, understood anchored, and resumed transit at 2330 UTC Mar 16, escorted by tugs. She was anchored off Bosphorus in Black sea at around 0030 UTC Mar 17, and as of 0700 UTC, was still at anchor. TYCOON is en route to Odessa Ukraine.

Water Drained from One of Stellar Banner s Cargo Holds
Drainage of saltwater from one of the cargo holds of the grounded cargo ship Stellar Banner has been completed, according to the latest update from the Brazilian Navy.
Salvage company hired for the job Ardent reported that there was no change in the volume of water in the cargo holds.
The activities are part of the salvage and fuel removal operation launched last week.

Navigator Holdings, Partners Form Gas Carrier Pool
Gas carrier owner and operator Navigator Holdings has, in collaboration with Singapore’s Pacific Gas and Hong Kong-based Greater Bay Gas formed a new shipping pool, the Luna Pool.
As informed, the Luna Pool will be focused on the ocean transportation of liquefied petrochemical gas cargoes, with a specific focus on ethylene and ethane to meet the growing demands of our customers.

Stena Line to Axe 950 Jobs in Response to Coronavirus Impact
Gothenburg-based ferry company Stena Line has unveiled its plans to lay off 950 workers in Sweden.
The majority of the affected 950 people are employed by Stena Line Scandinavia AB, and the planned job redundancies concern positions onboard and offshore, on nine Swedish flagged vessels, as well as positions in the two sister companies Stena Line Travel Group and Retail & Food Services.

VLCC Volatility Brings Record USD 410K Fixture
The volatility in the tanker market sector has seen earnings for the very large crude carriers (VLCCs) skyrocket, bringing unexpected joy to tanker owners.

Golar Power to Develop LNG Import Terminal in Port of Suape, Brazil
Golar Power Limited, a joint venture between Golar LNG and Stonepeak, has signed a Protocol of Intentions with the State Government of Pernambuco, a state of Brazil, to develop an LNG import terminal in the Port of Suape, located in the northeast of Brazil.
The Golar Power terminal intends to use an existing LNG carrier, permanently docked at the Suape Port for the project.

Throughput of Russian seaports in 2M 2020 grew by 0.7% to 132.4 million tonnes of cargo (detalization)
In January-February 2020, seaports of Russia handled 132.4 million tonnes of cargo (up 0.7%, year-on-year), says press center of the Association of Commercial Sea Ports.
Transshipment of dry cargo totaled 54.9 million tonnes (-2.3%) including 24.9 million tonnes of coal (+0.2%), 9.1 million tonnes of containerized cargo (+5.4%), 5.5 million tonnes of grain (-10.3%), 4.5 million tonnes of ferrous metal (-11.2%), 2.5 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers (-18.1%) and 1.6 million tonnes of ore (+31.1%).

DP World-run terminal gets nod for rate hike
Dubai-based logistics company DP World has got approval from the rate regulator for India s state-owned ports to raise tariffs by 64-93 per cent at its Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) near Mumbai, infusing life into the commercially struggling terminal.

Exports through Abu Dhabi ports up 7.7 pct to AED 30.9 bn in Q4 2019
The value of exports through Abu Dhabi ports increased by 7.7 pct from AED28.7 billion in Q4 2018 to AED 30.9 billion in the same period of 2019, according to figures released by the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi.
The business sector s exports grew by AED1.5 billion (5.4 pct); the government sector by AED 427.3 million (72.2 pct); and the individual sector by 47.0 pct compared with the same period of 2018.

Container traffic through Qatar ports rise 9.6% m-o-m to 6.86mn tonnes in January
The overall container traffic through various ports in Qatar was 6.86mn tonnes at the end of January 2020, according to the official figures.
The net tonnage through Qatar s ports witnessed 46.5% shrinkage year-on-year; while it increased 9.6% month-on-month in January 2020, said the figures released by the Planning and Statistics Authority in its latest monthly bulletin.
