ILO sets new minimum wage for seafarers
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) monthly minimum wage for seafarers will be raised to $592 from January 2015, and $614 from the beginning of 2016.

Aquino creates single agency for seafarers
MANILA: President Benigno “Noynoy Aquino has signed a law creating a single agency to oversee the training and certification of Filipino seafarers who contribute at least $5 billion a year to the country’s economy, according to Malacanang Palace.
Malacanang reported the law mandated the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) to be the sole agency to strengthen the country’s position as the premier provider of competent and certified seafarers in the international maritime trade.Posted On:24-Mar-2014

Centre aims for 9% of seafarers to be Indians
The Ministry of Shipping has said it has set itself a target to increase the strength of the Indian seafarers to 9 per cent of the global share, from the present 7 per cent.

Filipino seafarers slam incompetence of Marina
MANILA, Philippines—More than a thousand seafarers, mostly belonging to the United Filipino Seafarers (UFS), on Wednesday condemned the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) for mismanaging the maritime industry with its gross incompetence and utter lack of concern to the welfare of seafaring Filipinos.

National Shipping Board proposes Indian Maritime Service
VISAKHAPATNAM, FEB 24:
The National Shipping Board has sent a proposal to the Union Shipping Ministry for introduction of an Indian Maritime Service (IMS).
A resolution was adopted here at the board meeting on Monday. The meeting was presided over by NSB Chairman PVK Mohan. Director-General of Shipping Gautam Chatterjee, Visakhapatnam Port Chairman RPS Kahlon, and others participated in it. The board recommended to the Ministry of Shipping to either constitute a committee or appoint a consultant to work out the modalities.Posted On:24-Mar-2014
