Passenger ship disabled in Aegean sea
Passenger ship AEGEAN ODYSSEY with 339 passengers on board suffered engine failure while approaching Chania, Crete island, Greece, in the afternoon Apr 21, en route from Malta. Two tugs were deployed, the ship was safely taken to Chaina and berthed. Reported detained until completing repairs and survey.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Christens New Sayaringo STaGE LNG Carrier
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, held a christening ceremony for the next-generation Sayaringo STaGE type LNG carrier on April 19.
The vessel, which is under construction for Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), was named Diamond Gas Sakura. It is the third Sayaringo STaGE unit for the two companies, featuring significantly improved carrying capacity and fuel performance due to the adoption of a more efficient hull structure and hybrid propulsion system.

COSCO Shipping Lines Names Its Third 21,000 TEU Boxship Giant
China s COSCO Shipping Lines has named its latest 21,000 TEU containership at compatriot Jiangnan Shanghai Changxing shipyard.
The naming ceremony for COSCO Shipping Galaxy was held in Shanghai on April 18, 2019.
The ultra large container vessel (ULCV) - the group’s third ship of this size - has a length of 400 meters, a width of 58.6 meters and a maximum draft of 16 meters.

MCT Starts Port Upgrades Ahead of Expected Volume Rise
The Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) is rolling out improvements and upgrades at its port terminal in an effort to become a premier international gateway in Mindanao, the Philippines.
MCT said it is currently in the process of upgrading its terminal operating system and modernizing its equipment, adding that it has installed new reach stackers, terminal tractors and trailers, and other equipment that are expected to be completed this year and in the middle of 2020. It has also introduced a more customer-centric approach.

Bahri Expands Reach in Asia-Pacific
National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) revealed plans to expand its market presence in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, in line with the shipping and logistics company s long-term strategy.
The announcement was made at a grand ceremony held in Singapore earlier this month.
"The stronger presence will help the company gain deeper insights into market trends as well as customer needs in chemicals and logistics sectors in Singapore and the wider APAC region," Bahri explained in a statement.

MOL Turns to Augmented Reality for VLCC Navigation Systems
Japan s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has decided to install augmented reality (AR) navigation systems on 21 MOL-operated very large crude oil carriers (VLCCs) following a two-ship test interval.
The system was tested on MOL s first next-generation Flexie series car carrier, Beluga Ace, which was delivered in March 2018, and VLCC Suzukasan, delivered in October 2018.

ABS, CINS to Jointly Reduce Dangerous Goods Stowage Risks
Technology company ABS and Cargo Incident Notification System (CINS) representatives will be working together to set out guidelines for practices that would help reduce risks posed by the stowage of dangerous goods on containerships.
ABS said it has been working with CINS members over the past six months to develop best stowage strategy guidelines.

Port Arthur LNG Export Facility Gets FERC Construction Nod
Sempra Energy s Port Arthur LNG export facility cleared another hurdle as it received Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval for construction and operation in Jefferson County, Texas.
"With today s FERC order and the commercial momentum of the Port Arthur LNG project, we are one step closer to reaching a final investment decision and delivering low-cost, reliable and clean U.S. natural gas to world markets," said Carlos Ruiz Sacristán, chairman and CEO of Sempra North American Infrastructure.

All Concessioned Port Terminals in Nigeria are ISPS Code Compliant - SOAN
Contrary to media reports on non-compliant of some terminals to the International Ships & Ports Facility Security Code (ISPS) Code the Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN) has said that all concessioned port terminals in the country are in full compliance with the provisions of the Code.

Freight throughput in the Port of Rotterdam grows by 5.1% in first quarter of 2019
In the first quarter of 2019, 5.1% more freight passed through the Port of Rotterdam than in the same period last year. In total, 123.9 million tonnes were handled compared with 117.8 million tonnes in the same period in 2018.
