Trends of the Sailors in visiting New York city during their offs
There was a time, after several months of sailing, sailors on leave would go mad on the streets of New York city, they used to consume liquor and have had female friends
Chief Petty Officer Justin Brown, who is a member of the Navy for the past 17 years “I used to spend very much at the American Girl store, where I visited to shop for my daughters”
If we take a look at the sailors nowadays, who come to see New York, we can make out that is how they have evolved and how this city has evolved as well.
They carry shopping bags in their hands, iced coffee, endless selfie session along with a selfie stick.
During the Fleet Week, members of the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard came to New York amounting to 1800 members.
It was clearly evident that, with ether presence in the bars and on the streets, signifying that majority of the sailors spent their evenings at pubs as well as clubbing was an appealing object of enjoyment for them.
But other sailors were foodie where the most preferred food was pizza, but few were choosy.

Medals discovered and handed over to Sailor ames Dillion Adkison's family
After an incident where a Lubbock sailor named James Dillion Adkison, who was 21 years of age, gave the ultimate sacrifice at Pearl Harbor, which happened 74 years ago, people belonging to his family were pleased to know that a piece of family history was found in the Hub City.

During an attack on Pearl Harbor, he was killed aboard the USS Arizona .In the year1943, his family members were honoured with an award of a Purple Heart and other medals. However, these medals and awards were misplaced and family was unable to locate it for past 15 years.

Lubbock Police had made the announcement that it had discovered the medals inside the property room.

"I was extremely pleased to learn that the medals were discovered." as told by the niece of James Dillion Adkison Ms Black.

She further added, That this is priced possession which was a part of famous history created by my uncle, now it has again added to our family’s joys and memories attached with our uncle. Though I never met my uncle, but have learnt about him through many stories told by my family.

Personal invitation by chairman of DP World Sultan Ahmad bin Sulayem to the delegates of Kuwait Ports Authority
A two day visit will be done by the officials belonging to the Kuwait Ports Authority, They have landed in UAE with a purpose to take lessons from DP World, which is considered to be the UAE’s largest and one of the pioneers in port operations.

Sheikh Yousef Abdullah Al-Sabah - Kuwait Ports Authority’s director general expressed his interest in DP World at a press conference saying that he was very much interested to choose the commendable story of DP World and also learn from other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

The visit was an outcome of an invitation given by chairman of DP World Sultan Ahmad bin Sulayem to the delegates of Kuwait Ports Authority. He told that he is keen on sharing the newest marine, administration, technical, financial and security aspects of port management with Kuwait Ports Authority.

Since 20 years, DP World has attained the rights for 65 commercial ports internationally and is positioned as one of the top five global port operations companies right now. Sheikh Yousef Abdullah Al-Sabah commented that Sheikh this success was a big milestone considered by GCC neighbours.

Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), Shipping Corporation of India and IDBI Capital Market filed a petition against the Bharati Shipyard in the Bombay High Court.
There is petition which has been being filed by Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), Shipping Corporation of India and IDBI Capital Market against the company in the Bombay High Court.

There are people who have high net worth and have invested their money in the ship building company Bharati Shipyard by investing a whooping amount of Rs 500 crore.

The Edelweiss asset reconstruction company is taking the responsibility to place a revival package correctly for Bharati Shipyard, it also planning to build a different structure to safeguard the company against the litigations filed in the Bombay High Court by company’s unsecured lenders.

“We are giving financial aid by raising funds of Rs 500 crore from Indian high net worth individuals and family offices for the revival of Bharati Shipyard. We are planning to build a We intend different set up for the company to safeguard it against the petitions filed by vendors and some institutions.” as told by Mr ,Siby Antony, director and CEO, Edelweiss ARC.

Bharati Shipyard has order book of 65 half built ships and is expected to construct few war ships from the government, as a part of a defence deal. It might change the fate of the company in a positive sense.

Arising threats in South East Asia
The countries in the Southeast Asian region are focusing strengthening their navies and coastguards by spending money due to the arising threats in the South China Sea.

As per IHS Janes Defence Weekly, By the year 2020, the yearly costing on defence in Southeast Asia is expected to rise unto $52 billion, as compared to $42 billion in the previous year.

The weekly mentions that in a span of five years, the ten countries belonging to Southeast Asia are projected to spend $58 billion.

Majority of the equipment is expected to be utilised in the region of South China Sea, in this area Beijing's creation of artificial islands has worried few Asian countries and has created tension for China's navy and the US air force.

“The increase in the defence activities is an outcome of the build-up in the maritime domain," Mr Tim Huxley, executive director of the International Institute of Strategic Studies in Asia commented.

The inclination towards maritime capabilities was very much clear at the IMDEX Asia maritime defence show in Singapore, which was held last week.At the event regional naval chiefs and defence procurement officials were interacting with contractors belonging to United States, Europe, Israel and other parts of Asia.

Carrickfergus youngsters selected to take part at Tall Ships event
A group of youngsters would be joining a crew of 80 aboard German-built vessel. The route which will be followed is from Belfast to Norway for the first round of race. This is the third time when Belfast has hosted Tall Ships event.

With this event Carrickfergus youngsters would attain great sailing experence. Out of the 80 trainees, Shannon Molloy, Kamila Babiak, and Caleb Clements who are chosen to travel on one of the famous ships on the occasion of prestigious maritime event in the month July.

These local citizens are 17 years old, who were chosen for a renowned crew trainee scheme aboard the German-built barque Statsraad Lehmkuhl. In first round of race, the ship will be participating in the fleet from Belfast to Ålesund in Norway.

Carrickfergus Grammar student Shannon Molloy told Times. “Last year I became aware of this event on Cool FM’s Facebook page and casually I filed for my application to participate.”

After a strict application and interview procedure, Shannon was selected for the event as one of the trainees. It would also give a platform to polish their talents for job opportunities futuristically.

The people taking part have finished the training which comprised of on-the-water activities and safety procedures, and also several team-building activities.

Possibilities of numerous mergers in the shipping industry in the coming years
According to the shipping industry analysts, there are possibilities of mergers which will eventually give advantage to state-owned companies of shipbuilders and construction contractors.

Post the merger of the two locomotive makers the swift union of China CNR and China CSR, the trend of the market is changing and we can see increasing number of mergers in the years to come. These two giants broke their alliance 14 years ago, but now seeing the competitive scenario in the market, they came together to work.

According to Li, “On the merger scale we can position the state-owned shipping lines, China Ocean Shipping Group (Cosco) and China Shipping Group, in the bottom.”

It would generate the fourth-largest container carrier, if we add up the container arms of Cosco and China Shipping, these are the sixth and seventh largest operators by fleet size globally. Economically, it would be fruitful, as per the estimates by Shenwan Hongyuan analyst Xie Ping, which is 800 million yuan (HK$999 million) in extra annual net profits.

United Nations Monitoring Report on Kenya’s criminal link up with How Somali pirates
According to the reports by United Nations Monitoring that Somalia and Eritrea represent as Kenya as a gangsters’ paradise. In this region people can be misguided by blue collar criminals as result it is leading to many criminal offences, such as money laundering, to thrive and morph into legitimate-looking business.

It recommends that numerous cases misleading from Somalia’s piracy industry have got into Kenya’s airline, car import, fishing and energy sectors.
