BIMCO applauds Hong Kong for pragmatic approach to crew change.
Following several discussions with the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, the administration in Hong Kong is opening for conditional but unrestricted crew change in Hong Kong.
With the crew change deadline set out by a group of international stakeholders drawing ever closer, the administration in Hong Kong has taken a pragmatic approach, according to information provided by the Hong Kong Ship Owners Association (HKSOA) and confirmed by the Maritime Department (MARDEP) of the Hong Kong administration, allowing for facilitation of crew change from cargo ships without scheduled cargo operations in Hong Kong if the following conditions are met:
• Out-going crew members who have completed their service on board would be required to stay on board the vessel during their stay in Hong Kong and travel directly to the airport for repatriation to their home countries in order to minimise contact with the local communityPosted On:11-Jun-2020

Police were tonight probing the discovery of the body of a young woman, a crew member aboard a cruise ship docked at the Bridgetown Port.

UN calls for shipping crew changeovers amid pandemic.
Two UN agencies on Wednesday called on governments to facilitate shipping crew changeovers when international flights resume to help fatigued seafarers go home.
The UN Trade and Development Agency (UNCTAD) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) made the call.

Indonesia : Moratorium on seafarer recruitment short-term answer: ministry
A moratorium on the recruitment of Indonesian seafarers on foreign fishing ships would only serve as a short-term solution to the problem of forced labor at sea, a Foreign Ministry official said.
"The moratorium will not automatically stop the practice. Canada Creates New Visa Procedures to Facilitate Crew Changes.
Canada is joining the list of nations responding to the growing calls to address the challenges in completing crew changes due to the restrictions designed to stop the spread of the coronavirus. A broad collation of shipping organizations, maritime associations, ship owners, and labor are all calling for action to address the growing humanitarian crisis for seafarers.
In an email, Luc Brisebois, Associate Director General, Marine Safety and Security for Transport Canada announced new procedures for entry visas to permit crew changes. Saying, "Please find below the newly revised procedures to obtain entry visas for foreign seafarers in order to allow for crew changes," Transport Canada highlighted a two-step process that it believes will both speed and ease the barriers to completing crew transfers in Canadian ports.Posted On:11-Jun-2020

241 Indonesian cruise ship crew arrive in Jakarta.
A total of 241 Indonesian crew members of the MS Island Princess cruise ship arrived at the Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, on Wednesday.
The crew members were transported from the cruise ship to the dock with the help of four connecting vessels with a capacity of 40 passengers each.
Their disembarkation was carried out by a task force team, in accordance with the health protocols. The ship’s crew and their luggage was sprayed with disinfectant liquid as soon as they arrived at the dock.
