India : Sigh of relief for seafarers as Sri Lanka opens up its ports
Hundreds of Indian seafarers are now getting back to their jobs on ships at different ports across the world as Sri Lankan authorities have facilitated a crew change.
A large number of trained seafarers from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, despite spending up to Rs 5 lakh on training, could not take up jobs because of the Covid-19 lockdown. Similarly, those who completed their time on various ships are also able to return to India with Sri Lanka opening up its ports to facilitate sign off.

Stella Maris survey reveals impact of Covid-19 on seafarers
Putting food on the table, paying household bills and loans and ensuring job security are among the top concerns faced by seafarers as they cope with the impact that Covid-19 is having on their lives and that of their families.
A recent survey conducted by global maritime charity Stella Maris showed that such financial worries have had a profound impact on seafarers, with 69% saying that Covid-19 has impacted them financially "a lot" or "very much".

170 crew members of Oceana cruise ship in North Shields must stay on board for three months while docked.
Crew members of a cruise ship in North Shields will remain on board for three months while the vessel is docked.
P&O Cruise s Oceana has been docked in the Port of Tyne s Northumbrian Quay since the beginning of June.
With cruises cancelled until at least October 15 due to the coronavirus pandemic, P&O Cruises says its home port of Southampton has no space to berth all of its ships, so it moved the 77,000-tonne liner to North Shields, where it will stay for around three months.Posted On:12-Jun-2020

300,000 seafarers need flights for crew changes, says UNCTAD estimate
Around 300,000 seafarers operating marine transport will need international flights to enable crew changeovers every month, starting mid-June 2020, according to an estimate by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and International Maritime Organization (IMO) on June 10, 2020.
About half the seafarers will have to travel home by air for repatriation, while the other half will need to join ships for work. Around 70,000 cruise ship staff await repatriation, said the estimate.Posted On:12-Jun-2020

Chief Engineer died on board of LPG tanker while working
Chief Engineer of an LPG tanker EPIC ST.KITTS died on board of the ship on Jun 10, when tanker arrived at Mongla port. According to preliminary examination, 43-year old Chinese national died from a heart attack, while working. His body was taken to hospital for examination, to be transferred later to China, he s from Hubei province, according to his passport. He was working on EPIC ST.KITTS during last seven months.
