Philippines : Filipino Authorities Find It A Hard Task To Test 7000 Seafarers
Mass testing of 7,000 returning seafarers is proving to be quite a difficult job for the Philippine Coast Guard(PCG) onboard some 18 cruise ships that have presently gathered in Manila Bay.
'Gold standard' COVID testing has been adopted by the Filipino authorities, which includes the PCG as well as the Bureau of Quarantine(BOQ).
Authorities estimate that a minimum of one week time will be required to test all the seafarers onboard the 18 cruise ships.
The crew can then disembark and wait for the outcomes offshore. Those who are deemed as negative as per the tests will be handed a certificate of completion, enabling them to return to their families on all available modes of transport.

India needs to operate special flights for seafarers: Synergy Marine
India, which is one of the three largest suppliers of seafarers, needs to mount special flights to port cities like Singapore, Rotterdam and Hong Kong to help facilitate crew changes amid coronavirus pandemic, a senior industry executive has said.
Around 40 per cent of Indian seafarers have completed their contracts but are still on the ships, with majority of them on cargo ships across various ports on extended contract due to visa restrictions and non-availability of flights, according to the industry estimates.

How to save the world s seafarers and the supply systems they support.
Clapping for essential workers on suburban streets cannot be heard at sea, where hundreds of thousands of crew members are stranded on ships they can t leave, risking their lives to put food on our plates.
Our complex global supply system would grind to a halt without them, as merchant ships transport about 90% of global trade by volume, from food and medical goods, to energy and raw materials. In 2018, world seaborne trade volumes rose to an all-time high of 11 billion tonnes.
But as the pandemic continues, the mental health and safety of crews are under threat, imperilling the global economic recovery from COVID-19, according to a growing swell of leaders and organizations, including the World Economic Forum.

Barbados : Disney Dream Returns to Barbados to Repatriate 268 Crew Members.
Loop News Barbados Kerri Gooding reported the news that crew members boarded a British Airways flight for home on Saturday evening. This is the second time this week that crew members were repatriated, as roughly 400 crew members from the Disney Dream and Disney Wonder were sent home via British Airways and charter flights last Sunday. The repatriation process has been happening for several weeks, with crew members flying to London, New York, and Canada, according to Gooding.
Disney Cruise Line suspended departures on all its ships back in March as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, sailings aboard the Wonder are suspended until at least mid-September, with sailings on the Magic currently scheduled to resume October 3rd.
