Crew Change No Nothing Pact.
International Maritime Virtual Summit on Crew Changes was held by the UK Ministry of Transport, resulting in a Joint Statement of 13 States, participants of the Summit, namely:
Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the USA.
If one assumes, that it means soon-to-come relief for exhausted crews, he’s mistaken. Some lax, some easing of some restrictions here and there, undoubtedly, but no real and quick solution. This statement and the measures it implies, in general, are anything but solution....Posted On:13-Jul-2020

Panama Ship Registry grows 4.1% under new administration.
The Panama Ship Registry has grown by 4.1% during the first year of its new Administration.
During the first year of the new administration the Panamanian fleet has seen an increase of 8.m gt, or growth 4.1%. Pirate attacks surge in West Africa, Singapore and Peru.
It was simply seven years in the past that Tom Hanks starred in "Captain Phillips" -a harrowing film a couple of Somali pirate assault off the Horn of Africa.
Since then, piracy in the Gulf of Aden and the Sea of Somalia has all however disappeared - there have been no reported attacks in 2019 - however piracy continues… it s simply moved to less-policed areas.

Disabled cargo ship drifted dangerously close to shore, Norway
Cargo ship FREIFJORD was disabled after engine failure at around 2100 UTC Jul 11 at Moldefjord near Molde, south of Kristiansund, Norway, and drifted dangerously closed to the shore. SAR boat arrived just in time and prevented disabled freighter from grounding, until arrival of tug POLAR VIKING. FREIFJORD was taken on tow and towed to berth.Posted On:13-Jul-2020

Generals cargo ships collision in Welland Canal, Great Lakes.
General cargo ships ALANIS and FLORENCE SPIRIT collided at around 2000 UTC Jul 11 in Welland Canal, which is connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, Great Lakes. The ships collided while proceeding in opposite directions, ALANIS en route from Toledo Ohio, Lake Erie, with cargo of wind turbines, FLORENCE SPIRIT en route from Montreal to probably, Colborne. Both ships were damaged in fore area, extent of damages unknown. ALANIS reached Colborne and was berthed in about an hour after collision, FLORENCE SPIRIT was berthed at Welland, near collision site.Posted On:13-Jul-2020

India : Alang shipbreaking yard introduces vessel isolation for crew.
After a crew member tested positive for Covid-19 at Alang about 10 days ago, Gujarat government has changed the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for Covid-19 by introducing "vessel isolation" at the country’s biggest ship breaking yard, which is one of the shores that is permitting entry of foreigners in the country. Instead of the sailors being allowed to disembark, now those having Covid 19 symptoms will be isolated on board and will be paid visits by doctors.
In the last three months, about 300 of the total 500 crew members who came to Alang, riding on old ships meant to be broken and dismantled, are foreigners. Nine of the crew have tested positive so far. This includes Indians and nationals of Philippines and Poland.Posted On:13-Jul-2020

International Labour Organization welcomes COVID-19 seafarers rights agreement.
The International Labour Organization has expressed support for new international measures to protect the rights of seafarers, stranded at sea because of the COVID-19 crisis .
It welcomed a joint statement signed by more than a dozen countries that gives seafarers enhanced rights as key workers. The new measures, also supported by other UN agencies and international organizations, enable seafarers to be repatriated and move more freely during the pandemic.Posted On:13-Jul-2020
