Fire-Stricken Iron Chieftain to Be Retired
The fire-stricken bulker Iron Chieftain is set to be retired due to significant damage sustained during the incident at Port of Kembla.
The ship s operator, CSL Group, on July 10 made the decision to retire the vessel. Iron Chieftain was to be handed over to the underwriters who would maintain the salvage crew to oversee the offloading of the fuel and sludge, and prepare the bulker for towing from the port.

Hat Trick for Hyundai
The world s largest shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co may be faced with a dry spell in the offshore shipbuilding sector, but orders from the oil and gas sector keep coming in.
Specifically, the conglomerate s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard secured an order from an unnamed U.S. shipowner for two petrochemical product carriers. The contract is worth USD 74.5 million, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Gas carrier aground, SEA Update refloated
Jul 15 Update: PAZIFIK was refloated early Jul 14 and towed by tug PACIFIC VALOUR (IMO 9443516) to eastern Pulau Sumbawa island, anchored at Sape anchorage. As of 1700 UTC Jul 15, she was in the same position. No damages, no leak reported so far.

34 tourists including French injured by collision at Russian town, Spietsbergen
Tourist boat AURORA EXPLORER with 125 passengers on board collided while docking at Barentsburg, Russian mining town, on western coast of Spietsbergen island, Norway Arctic, Greenland sea, at around 1000 LT Jul 15. According to latest news, 34 people were injured by a sharp jolt, some seriously, suffering broken legs and arms. AURORA EXPLORER was shuttling tourists from cruise ship, according to Russian information. Nationalities of tourists unknown, French were mentioned, among others.

MPA revokes Pegasus Maritime s bunker craft operator licence
THE Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has revoked the bunker craft operator licence of international freight forwarder, Pegasus Maritime, because it had allowed an unlicensed craft operator to use its bunker craft to make deliveries.
Pegasus will no longer be allowed to operate as a bunker craft operator in the Port of Singapore, effective Monday, MPA said.

Search continues for missing crew
Ten crew remain missing after a ship sank near Wusong Dock following a collision with another vessel early yesterday morning. The sunken ship Shunqiang was loaded with 3,000 tons of steel roll as well as 13 crew. By yesterday evening, 10 crew remained missing while the other three were rescued.

Govt permits import of new vehicles from Vizag port
The government has added Vishakhapatnam port to the list of ports and inland container depots (ICDs) for importing new vehicles. "Vishakhapatnam port is being added to the list of 15 existing ports/lCDs, thereby taking the total number of ports/ICDs to 16, for importing new vehicles," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.
Imports of new vehicles are allowed only though these 16 ports/ICDs, it said.

India keen to increase sea trade: Gadkari
With the heavy competition from the private ports, the Ministry of Shipping directed all the major port managements to gear up to meet the new challenges. The Government of India is keen to increase the sea trade in the coming years, by developing all the major ports with advanced equipment, the Ministry of Shipping instructed the major ports.

INDIA : 36,000 port workers to get 10.6% wage hike
Some 36,000 port and dock workers at the 12 major ports owned by the Centre will get a 10.6 per cent wage hike for a five-year period beginning January 1, 2017.
The wage increase was finalised recently by the Bipartite Wage Negotiation Committee comprising representatives from the Indian Ports Association (IPA) and the five workers unions at major port trusts.
