Migrants stoned UK cargo ship amid bunkering at Ceuta, just for fun
General cargo ship CELTIC VENTURE called Ceuta in the morning Jul 18, and stayed at port for several hours. Looks like she called Ceuta for bunkering only. Bunch of migrants, loitering around port facilities for quite a time already, suddenly started to throw stone at the ship and CEPSA workers, busy with bunkering. Soon, workers were compelled to stop their work, being under barrage of stones. Civil Guard had to intervene. It is not know if the ship managed to get fuel in full, or had to leave Ceuta because of migrants displeasure. Or probably, it was just migrants idea of having fun and bringing the diversity to otherwise, dull port s existence. Reportedly, it wasn t the first such accident. Ship left Ceuta at 1330 UTC, bound for Netherlands.

Paradip Port s Outer Harbour project at bay on sliding coal demand
Paradip Port Trust (PPT), the second largest major port by cargo volumes after Kandla, has decided to keep in abeyance its "Outer Harbour" project. Apart from the project cost of Rs 87.67 billion, an additional investment of Rs 35 billion was needed to firm up railway connectivity to the proposed harbour.
The project was conceptualized to ship thermal coal primarily to the southern states. But, as demand for thermal coal narrows, PPT has scaled back the plan and is instead focusing on maximizing the capacity of its inner harbour.

As cargo supply chains across the Americas continue to modernize, what are the challenges & opportunities this creates?
Against the backdrop of the uncompromising U.S. trade agenda and the industry s embrace of the newly expanded Panama Canal, the TOC Americas Conference and Exhibition (13 - 15 November) will return to Panama for a series of global and regional discussions and debates. Since TOC was last in Panama - just prior to the official inauguration - the new Canal locks are now open for business facilitating record transits, making this the ideal time for TOC Americas to be back in Panama.
As Mr Jorge L. Quijano predicted in his keynote address in 2015, the expansion of the Panama Canal has radically altered how goods are moved, not only in the region but across the world.

Pulling NPA out of murky waters
Before now the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) was in dire need of sanitation due to unfriendly mode of operations, poor management polices, incompetence and financial impropriety, which have been major factors drawing back the agencies in the past years.
With huge maritime potential and significant level of seaborne trade, Nigeria should be celebrating the ports as its economic mainstay, but issues bothering around corruption, incompetence and lack of tactical methods of generating funds in an encouraging business atmosphere has dragged the past administrations of the agency to the murky waters.
