Reefer juice tanker near miss in Santos Harbor
Reefer juice tanker ORANGE SUN nearly missed collision with pier and small boats, scattered around, while leaving Santos, Brazil, in the afternoon Jul 19, in a dense fog. The ship suddenly turned hard a starboard while maneuvering, and had to drop anchor to avoid collision. The ship was detained for inspection. As of 0400 UTC Jul 20, she was anchored at Santos outer Anchorage.

Paper pulp on fire in cargo ship hold, Shanghai
Fire erupted in cargo hold or holds of general cargo ship CSC ZHI HAI, berthed at Changshu port, Shanghai, paper pulp cargo inflated. CO2 system was activated, because of dangerous character of cargo reportedly, crew and terminal staff were evacuated, safety zone established. No information yet on damages and losses, emergency team waiting until hull cools down.

Freighter grounding, S-Petersburg
General cargo ship KAPITAN YAKOVLEV ran aground on Kronshtadt Anchorage, S-Petersburg, Russia, at 1012 Moscow time Jul 19, while approaching Moby Dick Cargo Terminal, Kronshtadt, with 4200 tons of steel on board. The ship was refloated an hour later with the assistance of the tug, and berthed at Terminal. No damages, no leak reported.

Wartsila Cashes In on 2020 Sulphur Cap Countdown
Finnish smart technology company Wartsila is reaping the fruits of increased demand for exhaust gas cleaning solutions in both the newbuild and retrofit markets ahead of the 2020 global sulphur cap.

Nigeria Suspends Maersk Line, Cosco Shipping Services
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has suspended the shipping services of Maersk Line, Cosco Shipping and two other shipping firms for ten days, effective from July 14.
Namely, the Danish and Chinese shipping giants, along with APS and Lansal, were served the suspension after an investigation by NPA showed that the companies failed to comply with the directive to acquire and operate holding bays. The shipping firms have either failed to utilize their holding bays at all or did not have adequate capacity to handle the volume of containers that they deal with, NPA informed.

DFDS Splashes New RoRo Giant at Jinling Shipyard
Danish shipping and logistics company DFDS has launched its first new mega-ship being built at China s Jinling shipyard. The first of five units ordered from the shipbuilder was splashed into the Yangtze River on July 16, according to the company. Prior to the launching, the shipbuilder dressed the newbuilding in a DFDS coat.

Salvage Firms Gearing Up to Move MV Priscilla
After several unsuccessful attempts to refloat the Dutch cargo ship which ran aground off Caithness on July 18, a consortium of salvage companies has been appointed to move the vessel.
The owner of the cargo ship Priscilla has appointed Multraship, Ardent and Wagenborg as salvors, HM Coastguard informed. Representatives from Ardent are expected to reach the ship later today in order to carry out an initial assessment on July 21. Salvors have already commenced deploying equipment to the incident site.

North Korea s coal smuggled into South via Russian port
South Korean authorities have opened an investigation into a UN panel s finding that North Korea transhipped over 9,000 tons of coal, disguised as Russian exports, to South Korean ports in Incheon and Pohang, North Gyeongsang, last October.
According to a recent United Nations panel of experts report, North Korean coal shipped to the Russian port of Kholmsk was reloaded on two vessels that entered South Korea s Incheon and Pohang ports and arrived after the UN Security Council s comprehensive coal ban was implemented in August last year.

Port Of Liverpool To Receive New Container Services
Peel Ports flagship deep-water container terminal, Liverpool2, will welcome its largest regular caller to date when 2M (Maersk and MSC alliance) introduce a new transatlantic container service to the port beginning 22 July 2018.
2M is switching its TA2 service from Felixstowe to Liverpool on a temporary basis. At the same time, Maersk Line s South American service, Colombia Express, will also start calling at the port of Liverpool, exporting UK goods to Newark.

Belgian firm pledges 50m makeover of Hamina port
The Belgian transport engineering company Sarens has agreed to double a planned investment to modernise the port of Hamina in southeast Finland.
The deal builds on a 2016 agreement between Sarens and Tengizchevroil (TCO) - a consortium of oil companies operating the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan - to build a trans-shipment base in the Finnish coastal city. The new port in question would primarily be used for offloading cargo from ocean-going vessels.
