MANSA elects Captain Amit Wason of NYK Line (India) as President for 2018-20 term
Maritime Association of Nationwide Shipping Agencies - India (MANSA) has elected Captain Amit Wason from NYK Line (India) Pvt Ltd as President for the period 2018-20 taking charge from Captain Vivek Anand, who held the post for two consecutive terms.
Mr. Hiren Chandrakant Ved from M/s Parekh Marine Services Pvt. Ltd continues as vice-president for another term while Mr. Vijayendra Parvataneni from M/s Maxicon Shipping Agencies, who was also the ex-chairman of Young MANSA Forum, has been elected as the second vice-president.
Welcoming the new President and the other office bearers and wishing them all success to take MANSA to new heights, outgoing President, Captain Vivek S. Anand said, "The months of July /August will be a period of Transition and Acclimatization. The new Executive Committee will closely work with existing Executive Committee for a smoother takeover."
The new committee has the wherewithal to scale new heights and built-up further on all the works undertaken by the previous Committee, Captain Anand said.
Expressing pleasure and excitement to take up the challenge, the incoming President, Captain Amit Wason, said, "Aided by the significant domain expertise and experience from senior members of the Executive Committee, I am delighted to continue the good work of my predecessors. I am hopeful that we will have smooth sailing in achieving our collective goal during the given term that would benefit all the stakeholders and the Indian economy at large."
Other office bearers elected for the new term include, Mr. Sanjay Sharad Dalvi of M/s Atlantic Shipping Pvt. Ltd, Mr. R. Subramaniam Swamy of M/s Sai Shipping Co. (P) Ltd, Capt. Ramchandran R. Iyer of M/s Seahorse Ship Agencies Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Rajnish Khandelwal of M/s J. M. Baxi & Co, Capt. Jasbir Singh of M/s Omega Shipping Agencies Pvt. Ltd, Ms. Mousumi Guha of M/s United Liner Shipping Services LLP, Mr. Yogesh D. Shah of M/s Seabridge Marine Agencies Pvt. Ltd. Capt. Mukund Rangamani of M/s K. Steamship Agencies Pvt. Ltd and Mr. Anshuman Baruah of M/s MSC Agency (India) Private Ltd.
Among the 12 Members elected to the Executive Committee, there are 7 new Members to add fresh blood to the momentum and for the first time MANSA is proud to have a lady on its Executive Committee.

Accountability Flaws Could Hinder IMO s Climate Goals
Several transparency and accountability flaws could hinder the International Maritime Organization s (IMO) ability to deliver on its own climate goals in reducing carbon emissions, a new report by Transparency International showed.
The report entitled, "Governance at the International Maritime Organisation: The Case for Reform," outlines several key policy issues and recommendations that the IMO, the United Nation’s leading shipping agency, must address in order to meet international standards for transparency, accountability, and integrity.

Completion of World s Largest Sea Lock Delayed
The completion of the sea lock at the North Sea Canal entrance in IJmuiden, the Netherlands, has been delayed for 27 months.
The deadline was moved to the end of January 2022, according to the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Cora van Nieuwenhuizen.
The delay has been attributed to the required technical adjustments to the sea gate which will need more time to be completed.

Seanergy Maritime Agrees Multiple Financing Deals in June
Greek dry bulk shipping company Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp. agreed multiple financing deals in June, the company said as part of its financial report for the quarter ended March 31.
The company said that it secured a new USD 24.5 million loan agreement to refinance the outstanding indebtedness of M/V Lordship on June 11. The earliest maturity date of the new facility is in June 2023, which can be extended until June 2025 subject to certain conditions.

Meyer Turku Starts Hull Assembly for Costa Cruises New Ship
Finland-based shipbuilder Meyer Turku marked the beginning of the hull assembly for Costa Cruises new ship, Costa Smeralda.
The shipbuilder held a coin ceremony for the 180,000 gross ton ship, the largest one being built by Meyer Turku in ten years. After this the ship will start to take form in the dry dock of Meyer Turku.

China Sets Tier II Rules for Ships in Domestic Trade
As of September 1, 2018, Chinese-flagged and imported ships employed on domestic trades will be required to comply with the NOx Tier II emission limits, the Chinese Ministry of Transport said on Tuesday.
The move is being announced as part of the country s efforts to improve the quality of its waterway transportation and cutting air pollution.

Ferry capsized, people jumped into water
update : 12 people reportedly died. The ship according to all available information, remained partially afloat, resting on bottom. Most likely, there was panic on board, causing people to jump into water, when there was no real danger of ship sinking and consequently, people drowning. If there s an all-out panic among dozens of people on board of distressed capsized ship, there s little Captain and the crew can do.

Container ship SSL KOLKATA sank being aground after 3-week fire
SSL KOLKATA sank on Jul 2 in position 21 26N 088 47E, near Sundarbans and maritime border line between India and Bangladesh. The ship maybe rested on bottom by starboard, in any case she s said to be partially above water, as she sank in shallow waters. A number of containers already went into water and are floating in the area, endangering shipping. Special salvage team said to be contracted to recover floating containers. Another problem is fuel on board, some 211 tons, but with ship resting on bottom but partially above, fuel can be siphoned from her.

Vard Clinches Deal for New Hapag-Lloyd Cruises Ship
Vard Holdings Limited has secured a new contract for the design and construction of one luxury expedition cruise vessel for German cruise company Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.
The new expedition cruise vessel will join Hapag-Lloyd Cruises HANSEATIC series, together with the two vessels that VARD already has under construction for the Germany-based cruise company. The new luxury expedition cruise vessel will feature 16,000 gross tons, a length of 139 meters and a width of 22 meters.

ICS Clamps Down on Efficiency Indexing of Individual Ships
The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) voiced its fierce opposition to the concept of mandatory operational efficiency indexing of individual ships as a possible candidate measure for CO2 reduction.
In its latest publication titled Reducing CO2 Emissions to Zero the ICS argues that mandatory indexing of ships would lead to serious market distortion. The document has been published with the aim of endorsing the recent adoption of decarbonization strategy by the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO).

DHT Holdings to Equip Twelve VLCCs with Scrubbers
Bermuda-based tanker owner and operator DHT Holdings has entered into agreements to install exhaust gas cleaning systems on twelve of its very large crude carriers (VLCCs).
The company has inked a deal with Swedish company Alfa Laval for the supply of scrubbers. What is more, DHT has secured shipyard capacity to install all systems within 2019.

Gothenburg Port Extends and Renews Green Discount
The Gothenburg Port Authority has decided to extend a discount on the port tariff for ships running on LNG and is already outlining a renewed environmental discount.
In 2015, the port introduced the discount in an effort to increase the number of calls by LNG-fueled ships. Several major LNG investments have been made since then. This has had a positive impact on the environment, including reduced emissions of sulfur dioxide, particles and nitric oxide into the air in western Sweden.

Temasek unit acquires stake worth $147m in India s Adani Ports
Singapore state investment firm Temasek Holdings, via its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary Camas Investments, has acquired a stake worth Rs 1,000 crore ($147 million) in Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) through open-market transactions, as per block deal data available with BSE.

British Ports Association calls for border continuity ahead of Brexit White Paper
As the UK Cabinet prepares for an away day at Chequers this week, the British Ports Association (BPA) has urged Ministers to agree a proposal that will ensure goods continue to flow uninterrupted between UK and EU ports post-Brexit.
Commenting on the Government s forthcoming revised customs blueprint proposals the BPA s Chief Executive, Richard Ballantyne, said:
We are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the Cabinet discussions and forthcoming Brexit White Paper. The UK s post-Brexit customs relationship with the EU will dictate how almost half of our trade is handled at the border.
