J. Lauritzen Expands Dry Bulk Fleet, Bullish on Market Improvement
Danish shipping company J. Lauritzen extended time charters for five Handysize bulkers and took one additional ship on medium-term time charter in the second quarter of this year.
In addition, the company redelivered three loss-making long-term time-chartered Handysize bulk carriers to their owners.

Shell Hires AET s Newbuilding DP2 Shuttle Tanker
Brazil Shipping Limited 1, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, has sealed a deal with AET to build and operate a new dynamic positioning (IMO Class 2) shuttle tanker.
This is Shell’s first contract involving AET s dynamic positioning shuttle tanker (DPST) portfolio. The duo has had a long cooperation in other segments and recently the company took AET s two newbuild LNG dual-fuelled Aframax vessels on long-term charter.

Pirate Attack Fears Raised after Chemical Tanker Goes Missing in GoG
Panama-flagged chemical tanker Pantelena is reported missing since August 14, 2018, when all contact with the ship was lost. The tanker was last reported to be sailing with 17 Georgian sailors on board in the Gulf of Guinea, a known piracy hotspot.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia said that an investigation into the incident was underway in cooperation with the owner of the ship Lotus Shipping from Greece, the Panama Ship Registry and other relevant authorities, including military forces such as the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

Woman Saved after Falling from Cruise Ship off Croatia
A woman who fell from Norwegian Star cruise ship off Croatia on Saturday evening has been rescued. The woman, a UK national, was found in the morning hours of August 19 after spending ten hours in the water.
Following reports of the missing cruise ship passenger, the Croatian Coast Guard immediately launched a search and rescue operation, deploying ships and an airplane.

Tanker loaded with diesel oil aground, Russian Inner Waterways
Product tanker VOLGONEFT-165 with 4639 tons of diesel fuel on board ran aground in river Volga in Astrakhan Region area at around 1200 Moscow time Aug 18, while proceeding upstream en route from Turkmenbashi Turkmenistan, Caspian sea, to Georgia, Black sea, via Rostov-on-Don. No damages, no leak reported. Tug is to be contracted for refloating.

Supertanker FRONT HAKATA Update towed to port
Disabled after fire VLCC was finally, towed to Tokyo Bay and moored, offloading to commence today. Not clear why did Japan Salvage tow tanker around for such a long time.
Aug 11 Update: VLCC FRONT HAKATA is still at sea reportedly under tow, though no tug visible nearby, moving or drifting in eastern direction at 1-3 knots speed.

Cargo ship aground Little Belt
General cargo ship DARWIN ran aground at around 14020 UTC Aug 18 in Little Belt south of Kolding Denmark while en route from Kiel to Kolding. No damages reported so far. As of 0400 UTC Aug 19 the ship was still aground, with no tugs nearby.

Cyprus Serving As Gaza s Port Still In Early Stages
If the emerging cease-fire arrangement with Hamas includes some kind of port or shipping corridor from Cyprus to Gaza, as some reports have indicated, no one has yet cued in the Cypriots.
Cypriot officials told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday that Nicosia has not yet had a "substantial bilateral dialogue" with Israel on the matter, and that there has been no flurry of activity in recent days moving this proposal forward.

Major Marina Fit-Out Contract Awarded For New Dover Marina
With a value of £2.7million, the contract will begin in early 2019, and include the design and construction of the pontoons, access bridges for the 250-berth marina, fuel tanks and pumps for the fuel berth and pontoons and an access bridge for the new boatyard.
Dave Herrod, DWDR Programme Director at the Port of Dover, said: "The appointment of Solent Marine Ltd represents another significant landmark for the Port and its customers. "Whilst the exact date for opening of the new facilities has not yet been determined, it is likely to be in late 2019 and a comprehensive transition plan will be put in place leading up to the opening of the new facilities."

Port of Oakland project seen as key to future about to begin
A freight distribution center placing high-demand logistics capability inside a global trade gateway will soon take shape here. The Port of Oakland said today that work should begin this fall on a long-awaited Seaport Logistics Complex.
The complex is envisioned as a cargo-handling campus that could change the trajectory of Port business. Currently a West Coast terminus for Transpacific trade vessels, Oakland could eventually double as a major freight distribution point.

Port of Newcastle and major terminal operator end talks on Newcastle container business
A deal between the Port of Newcastle and container terminal operator DP World Australia has broken down, with DP World understood to be talking with the owner of Port Botany and Port Kembla about a rival terminal at Wollongong.
Although DP World has signalled that negotiations ended because its investigations showed the Newcastle proposal was uneconomical, Port of Newcastle is taking a more optimistic view of the split, saying it is now able to talk to other operators.

PKA to increase container tariffs
Port Klang Authority (PKA) announced today that the 2nd phase of the increase in Port Klang s container tariff which was due to be implemented on 1st September 2018, will be deferred to 1st March 2019.
The tariff review was approved in 2015 whereby an increase of 30% was to be carried out in two phases. The increase was gazetted via PKA Scales of Rates, Dues and Charges Bylaws 2015 and was notified to all port users and industry players through Port Klang Authority General Manager s circular in August 2015.
