Dutch cargo ship hard aground in Kattegat, Sweden
General cargo ship BBC LAGOS ran aground south of Helsinborg, Sweden, Kattegat, at around 2130 UTC Aug 3, on a sandbank, while passing Kattegat in western direction, en route from Klaipeda Lithuania to Las Palmas Spain. Judging from AIS, the ship ran aground while sailing at full speed, so she should be hard aground, apparently it was a navigational error, the ship didn t change course and sailed straight ahead towards the coast.

Bali ferry aground, passengers evacuated
Ferry LIPUTAN XII connecting Ketapang Java and Gilimanuk Bali, Indonesia, was pushed aground in the evening Aug 2 by strong wind, while approaching Gilimanuk. Passengers were evacuated early in the morning Aug 3, by 1330 UTC Aug 3 ferry was still aground.

EU s Anti-Piracy Operation Gets Extension
European shipowners have welcomed the EU s decision to extended the Operation Atalanta until the end of 2020. On July 30, the European Council decided to extent the mandate of EU NAVFOR Somalia s operation until December 31, 2020.
The objectives of the Operation Atalanta are deterrence, prevention and repression of acts of piracy and armed robbery off the Somali coast and the protection of the World Food Program (WFP) and other vulnerable shipping, fishing activities and EU missions and programs in the region.

Thun Tankers Adds Ship for Deliveries into Restricted Ports
Dutch coastal shipping company Thun Tankers has reached an agreement to strengthen its fleet with the 2011-built tanker Wisby Teak.
Under the deal, the company will add the 7,000 dwt vessel to the Gothia Tanker Alliance with immediate effect. The unit, which is owned by Swedish shipping company Wisby Tankers, will be commercially managed by Thun Tankers. The highly manouverable tanker has been tailor designed to maximize deliveries into restricted ports.

Port of Newcastle Wants to Diversify, Eyes Container Terminal
A container terminal has been planned for Australian Port of Newcastle, the world’s largest coal export port which is now ready to diversify.
The new CEO of the port, Craig Carmody, has committed the Port of Newcastle to developing "a world-class container terminal" to boost jobs and business opportunities in the Hunter region and reduce the number of trucks on Sydney s roads through expanded use of Newcastle s rail connectivity.
As informed, the port has developed the concept for a staged container terminal development at the Mayfield site - the largest vacant port land site on the eastern seaboard of Australia.

Container traffic rises 30% at Hamad Port
Hamad Port is continuing to see huge rise in traffic. The QR27bn port witnessed a 30 percent rise in the handling of goods containers in July. The port handled 122,827 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) containers last month, according to Mwani Qatar data. It had handled 94,911 TEUs containers in June.
The strong momentum was also seen in vehicle movement. The port, which has a capacity to receive 500,000 vehicle per year, witnessed around 20 percent rise in the handling of vehicles. A total of 5,643 vehicles were handled last month compared to 4,708 vehicles handled by the port in June.

Singapore s port operator PSA moves into landside by acquiring Distribution Logistics Infrastructure
Singapore-based global port operator PSA International Pte Ltd, in partnership with private equity firm Gateway Partners Ltd, will acquire a controlling stake in Distribution Logistics Infrastructure Pvt Ltd (DLI) from Infrastructure India Plc (IIP) for $125 million. IIP is an AIM-listed closed-end investment firm focussed on infrastructure.
The deal will help PSA, a unit of Singapore s sovereign wealth fund Temasek, have greater control over the container supply chain in the hinterland.

Yilport closest to landing the port of Taranto
The port of Taranto and the container terminal have their eyes set on Turkey s Yilport Holding AS. On Tuesday, the Port System Authority of the Ionian Sea, whose president is Sergio Prete, acknowledging the "preliminary positive evaluation by the Permanent Internal Commission, in consideration of the importance of the proposer and the scope of the concession request with respect to the requests received", and agreed that the Turkish Yilport Holding s offer would "from various points of view, be the opportunity most in the public interest, ensuring the widest and most profitable use of the multisector wharf, the revival of employment, increase in port traffic and logistics, as well as the enhancement of the role of the port of Taranto and the Italian port system on the Mediterranean scene".

Croatia extends LNG terminal gas bidding deadline to Sept. 28
A deadline for bids on output from a planned offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal to be built on Croatia s northern Adriatic island of Krk has been extended until Sept. 28, developers LNG Croatia said on Friday.
Demand will dictate the capacity of the 250 million euro terminal, which is part of EU-led efforts to diversify away from Russian energy imports. The deadline on bidding for output was Aug. 3 but was delayed on requests from potential customers who are still in negotiations, LNG Croatia said.
