IMO Issues Guidance For Resuming Safe Cruise Operations In The European Union. Guidance on the gradual and safe resumption of operations of cruise ships in the European Union in relation to the COVID‑19 pandemic has been circulated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Cruise shipping has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with most sailings stopped. To facilitate the gradual and safe restart of cruise ship operations, the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have jointly developed Guidance on the gradual and safe resumption of operations of cruise ships in the European Union in relation to the COVID‑19 pandemic, which has been circulated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).Posted On:6-Aug-2020

India : Three cranes collapse at container terminal in heavy winds. Three rail mounted quay cranes used for loading and unloading containers at the terminal run by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) collapsed in high velocity winds that lashed Mumbai on Wednesday evening.
There were no casualties. No ships were at berth when the cranes crashed, port officials said. The three quay cranes that collapsed were built at South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co Ltd.
The terminal is one of the five operating at JNPT, India's biggest state-run container port. The other four terminals are run by private entities.Posted On:6-Aug-2020

Australian unions warn some foreign seafarers forced to stay on board with no prospect of returning home. Australia's maritime regulator has been inundated with complaints about shipping crews being forced to stay on board for months on end without any prospect of returning home - a problem complicated by Covid-19 travel restrictions.
In the latest such case, Australian authorities detained a Hong-Kong flagged bulk carrier in Newcastle over claims of serious breaches of the international convention that protects the working and living conditions of seafarers. India : Govt taking steps to reduce logistics cost to boost growth: Shipping Minister. The government has initiated multiple steps to reduce high logistics cost, including strengthening inland waterways, Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday, as he urged private players to join hands to propel India's growth.
Mandaviya, who was addressing a virtual event "Creating Multimodal Transport Network Using Big Data" organised by PHDCCI, also expressed concern over the high logistics cost in the country, which was 30 per cent more than that in developed nations.Posted On:6-Aug-2020

All 11 missing Filipino seafarers in Beirut now safe; 24 Pinoys injured in blast. All eleven missing Filipino seafarers in Beirut have been found safe after a massive blast rocked the Lebanese capital, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced Wednesday night.
According to GMA News JP Soriano, the DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs received a report from the Philippine Embassy in Beirut stating that all the missing seafarers had been accounted for.Posted On:6-Aug-2020
