COSCO s Heavy-Lift Ship Crosses Northern Sea Route
Chinese cargo vessel Tian En, specially built for polar waters, has arrived in the French port of Rouen, having traveled via the Arctic s Northern Sea Route or "Polar Silk Road" for the first time.
The route links Asia to Europe through the Western Pacific Ocean, the Bering Strait and the Arctic Ocean, and is shorter than the Suez Canal route by around 2,700 nautical miles.

GoodBulk Eyes USD 83 Mn in New Capital
Monaco-based owner of dry bulkers GoodBulk has embarked on an ambitious capital raising campaign as it welcomes new ships into the fleet. The company has secured a USD 73 million-worth credit facility with ING Bank and has entered into an investment agreement to collect around USD 10 million from share issuance.

Concordia Maritime Secures Work for Stena Provence
Swedish tanker shipping company Concordia Maritime has signed a contract to charter out the P-MAX tanker Stena Provence for another year. The undisclosed oil and gas major has been employing the vessel since 2014 for niche transportation of refined petroleum products, mainly in the Asia Pacific region.

CMA CGM Inaugurates Its 20,600 TEU Giant
CMA CGM s 20,600 TEU-containership, CMA CGM Antoine de Saint Exupery, was inaugurated today in the Port of le Havre, France. The giant boxship is the company s new flagship and world s biggest containership flying the French flag. It is also the ship with the longest name in the world.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the French Ministry of Economy Bruno Le Maire and French Minister of Transport Elisabeth Borne.

Hapag-Lloyd Praised for Green Ship Recycling
German container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd has received the "DNV GL Excellence Green Star" certificate in recognition of its compliance with the highest standards in ship recycling. DNV GL presented the certificate to the liner company at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg on Wednesday, September 5.
"In 2007, Hapag-Lloyd was the world s first container shipping line to be certified with DNV GL s Excellence - 5 Stars award. We are very happy to continue this tradition," said Hapag-Lloyd COO Anthony J. Firmin.

Maran Tankers Entrusts Sembcorp Marine with Scrubber, BWMS Retrofits
Maran Tankers, part of Greek shipping major Angelicoussis Shipping Group, has hired Sembcorp Marine for the installation of marine scrubbers and ballast water management systems on 13 vessels.
Under the contract, four Suezmax tankers will be fitted with marine scrubbers and ballast water management systems between the third quarter of 2018 and the fourth quarter of 2019, while a further nine Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) will have marine scrubbers installed between May 2019 and February 2020.

At 0115 LT Sep 5 barge MP3297 broke off mooring and allided with berthed ro-ro cargo ship ZAPOLYARNYY in Dudinka port, Russian Arctic. Barge remained intact, ZAPOLYARNYY sustained dents in stern quarters area.

ONE Picks Low Sulphur Fuel to Comply with New IMO Rules
Newly launched Ocean Network Express (ONE) plans to comply with the new sulphur regulations by fueling its ships with low-sulphur compliant hybrid oil.
The company said that low sulphur fuel is the most realistic option for the company as its container vessels can easily switch to the new fuel, without requiring special technical modifications.

Classification society DNV GL has awarded approval in principle (AIP) to Jiangnan Shipyard for the LNG Jumbo, a new LNG carrier design with GTT MK III Flex cargo containment system. The approval was granted at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg on September 5, 2018.

LNG-Fueled 23,000 TEU Behemoth in the Making
Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company Ltd. (DSIC) and classification society DNV GL have signed a joint development project (JDP) agreement to develop a new 23,000 TEU LNG fueled ultra large container vessel (ULCV). The JDP is focused on delivering a design which is ready for construction and reflects upcoming market trends and incoming regulations.

Hybrid technology makes operations greener and cleaner for DP World
On 5 September, 2018 DP World has announced it will be investing in the latest green technology at its UK ports to cut emissions and reduce its carbon footprint.
The company has placed an order for 12 hybrid straddle carriers at its terminal in Southampton. Compared to the conventional diesel-electric machines, DP World expects these machines to use 20 per cent less fuel and reduce its emissions.

Proposed sea port to link Ondo with international community Akeredolu
Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Tuesday said that the deep sea port being proposed by the state government would link the state to the international community.
Akeredolu stated this in Akure at the signing of the consultancy services agreement for the conduct and preparation of feasibility study and conceptual master design for the port.

1000th crude oil tanker berths at BPCL Kochi s mooring facility
MT Mogra, the Suez Max tanker has become the 1000th crude oil tanker to berth at the Single Point Mooring facility of BPCL-Kochi Refinery, located 19.2 km from the coast of Puthuvypeen. The vessel carried approx 140 TMT of Basrah light crude from Iraq to the Kochi coast. SPM is a modern facility to receive crude oil in large oil tankers such as the Suez Max and Very Large Crude Carriers.

Ethiopian commercial ship docks in Eritrea for first time in 20 years: broadcaster
An Ethiopian commercial ship docked in an Eritrean port for the first time in two decades on Wednesday, state-affiliated media said, in a concrete sign of a stunning rapprochement between the neighbors and former foes.
The Mekelle entered the Red Sea port of Massawa and was due to carry 11,000 tonnes of Eritrean zinc to China, Ethiopian broadcaster Fana Broadcasting reported.
