If uare going on a tanker go to a website caleed Q88.com: take a free trial for 15 days & all the ship details will be there.Sometimes typing the ship name also gets u a direst hit or else u can log onto company's website-USCG-AMSA-MCA etc web sites & u might be able to learn about some detentions of the ship. Try ais Live on Indian mariner .com  if u ur ship is in the ais covered area listed there. Hope it helps.
