Ro-ro ship on fire, 26 crew rescued, Java sea.
Passenger ro-ro cargo ship BAHARI INDONESIA caught fire in the evening Jul 21 in Java sea north of Jakarta, while en route from Jakarta to Pontianak, western Kalimanta, Indonesia. The ship with 26 crew and 20 vehicles on board was soon engulfed in thick smoke, crew had to abandon BAHARI INDONESIA in lifeboats and probably rafts. The crew were rescued by nearby vessel KM SAMUDERA JAYA ABADI at around 0600 LT (UTC +7) Jul 22, all 26 seamen are reported to be safe. BAHARI INDONESIA understood to be drifting, she’s to be towed to port, probably Jakarta, according to official statement.Posted On:23-Jul-2020

Aframax tanker crew member died several hours before reaching port, Atlantic.
Crude oil tanker SEATRUST while en route from Spain to Corpus Christ USA, interrupted her voyage in the Atlantic on Jul 18 and headed for Bermuda, in urgent need of medical assistance, after one of her crew fell ill, understood after heart attack. Sadly, seaman didn t make it, he died on Jul 19 several hours before tanker arrived at Bermuda. His body was transferred to port, tanker resumed voyage same day.Posted On:23-Jul-2020

Singapore warns crew coronavirus tests are being tampered with as HK reviews its seafarer stance.
Singapore has warned coronavirus tests for crew coming to the city-state have been altered or tampered with, something could could add another kink in carrying out crew changes at the key shipping hub. Elsewhere, in Hong Kong, an early champion of crew changes, there is a growing public backlash to the free movement of seafarers as the city endures a third wave of the pandemic.
All vessel owners, operators and manning offices have been reminded this week by the Maritime Port Authority (MPA) to strictly comply with the crew change regulations as communicated by MPA as any non-compliance may result in both the vessel s owner/operators/manning offices and their appointed local agency being either suspended or banned from making future crew change applications.Posted On:23-Jul-2020

The Vizhinjam minor port here is scheduled to host its second crew change event today (Wednesday) when Singapore-flagged container vessel Ever Gifted steams in following the successful first-ever crew change conducted in six hours by another vessel. Ship owners struggle to bring home crews amid coronavirus chaos.
Shipping companies are still struggling to get hundreds of thousands of crew members back home after many months at sea despite pledges by countries to ease transit restrictions for seafarers, industry officials say.

GMT Operates Successful Charter Fight to Repatriate Seafarers.
Stranded at sea due to the COVID-19 crisis, 210 seafarers from 65 different vessels were successfully repatriated to their homes from Amsterdam (AMS) to Manila (MNL) on a chartered aircraft organized entirely by Global Marine Travel’s dedicated team of travel experts.
On July 8th, GMT organized a chartered aircraft from Qatar Airways for 15 different key customers spanning from Cruise Operators to Ship Owners, Ship Management Companies and Manning Agencies. Italy detains migrant rescue ship over safety concerns.
The migrant rescue ship Ocean Viking was detained on Wednesday over technical irregularities, Italy s coastguard said, a move blasted as "harassment" by the charity that runs the vessel.
The ship had been allowed to disembark at a Sicilian port on July 7, with 180 rescued migrants onboard transferred to another boat for a two-week coronavirus quarantine.
