Pioneering Cruise Ship Arrives in India to be Scrapped
The first newly built cruise ship for Carnival Cruise Lines, which was launched at a critical moment in the development of the modern cruise ship industry, has ended its 38-year career. Introduced in 1982 as the Tropicale, this pioneering cruise ship has been beached at the scrapyards in Alang, India.
India Proposes Crew Change at Sea for Ships Stranded off China
Indian authorities proposed to their Chinese counterparts facilitating a crew change at sea for the crew members stranded aboard the vessels anchored for months off the Chinese coast. Responding to media questions in a written statement, Indias Ministry of External Affairs said that the cases of the bulk carriers Jag Anand and Anastasia, along with the other vessels waiting off the China coast, "are being pursued vigorously."
Crew member died after being stabbed during fight on board
A crew member of tanker NEW PROGRESS died during transportation on Jan 1 north off Keelung, Taiwan, reported Taiwanese English News. He was twice stabbed by another crew member during a fight, in chest and abdomen. 27-year old Myanmar nationality was airlifted and transported to hospital, to be declared dead on arrival. Tanker reached Keelung late Jan 1, CG was to arrest the perpetrator and carry out investigation.
