India: JNPT board clears privatisation of self-operated container terminal The board of trustees of Centre-owned Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) on Thursday cleared a proposal to privatise the container terminal run by the port authority itself at the port located near Mumbai.

Maersk mega container ship disabled by fire, anchored, Portugal Container ship MAERSK ELBA according to Portugal Maritime Authorities, suffered fire in engine room off southern Portugal, in the morning Dec 26, while en route from Sri Lanka via Suez, to Felixstowe UK, and contacted MRCC Lisbon. The ship is disabled after fire, she was anchored off Sagres, to carry out repairs. Probably, she was towed to anchorage, it is not clear. Russian trawler fire, 3 dead and 4 injured, Las Palmas. Fire erupted on board of Russian trawler SVEABORG at Las Palmas, Canary Islands, in the afternoon Dec 24, during maintenance works. Trawler is docked since Dec 18. Fire is said to be restricted by compartment or compartments, and didnt spread further, 5 Las Palmas firefighting engines were deployed. Two charged over security incident on oil tanker off coast of Isle of Wight Matthew John Okorie, 25, and Sunday Sylvester, 22, have been charged with conduct endangering ships following the incident on 25 October.
