Near miss accident in Kiel Canal, caused by navigational rules violation Cargo ship KEIT lost control after steering auto pilot failure while transiting Kiel Canal on Dec 27, and nearly missed commute ferry, while transiting in eastern direction, en route from Rotterdam to Klaipeda Lithuania. The ship berthed near accident site and resume transit after survey. At Kiel she was checked again, Master had to deposit 500 euro, because accident allegedly, was caused by crew fault, understood KEIT was steered by auto pilot, which is prohibited while transiting Kiel Canal.
