India: Sethusamudram ship channel project set to be beached Sethusamudram Corporation Ltd (SCL) is set to be wound up, bringing to end an ambitious maritime project that turned controversial over religious sentiments.
"The Sethusamudram Corporation has passed a resolution seeking additional grant of ₹115.72 crore from the government to settle the dues of Dredging Corporation of India for the dredging works carried out at the project site along with a proposal to the ministry of ports, shipping and waterways for winding up SCL," government sources said.Posted On:29-Dec-2020

Vessel Capsizes In Hormuz Strait - One Dead, 6 Missing The crew of an Iranian vessel which capsized in the Strait of Hormuz a couple of days ago is still missing. The vessel was heading to the port of Bandar Abbas.

MUI : Maritime piracy major cause of concern for over two lakh Indian seafarers. Concerned at rising incidents of piracy during the COVID-19 pandemic, maritime body MUI on Monday said it has become a major cause of worry for over two lakh Indian seafarers.

India: Crew sign off from ships arriving from UK to undergo Covid RT-PCR testing The Directorate General of Shipping (D G Shipping) has included vessels arriving from ports in the United Kingdom in the extra Covid testing rules stipulated for crew signing off from ships arriving from ports of infected countries within the 14-days mandatory quarantine period.
On December 17, the D G Shipping lifted the 14-days mandatory quarantine period stipulated for ships arriving from ports of Covid-19 infected countries after maritime trade complained that this was delaying the berthing of vessels with a cascading effect on the container logistics chain.Posted On:29-Dec-2020

ALGOMA bulk carrier contacted bottom, damaged Bulk carrier ALGOMA SPIRIT reportedly contacted bottom while under way, at Buoy A116, St. Lawrence river, downstream from Brockville, at 2130 EST (UTC -5) Dec 26, and had to berth at Iroquois lock for inspection. Local observers suspects hull damage, probably breach, because divers were deployed for survey. As of 0300 UTC Dec 28, the ship remained in the same position. Russian fishing vessel sank in Barents sea, 17 missing Fishing vessel ONEGA sank in Barents sea west of Yuzhniy island, Novaya Zemlya Archipelago, early in the morning Dec 28, after she encountered heavy icing. The ship was fishing, icing-prone weather conditions caused icing, which led to disaster.
