Drewry: Carriers to Mitigate ULCV Impact by Delaying Deliveries |
Carriers would be able to mitigate the capacity inflation of the ultra large container vessels (ULCVs) scheduled to arrive over the next few years by delaying deliveries and slowing services, shipping consultancy Drewry said.
A total of 26 containerships of at least 18,000 TEU were delivered to carriers in 2018, the most since ULCVs first hit the water in 2013.

Port of Galveston Inks 10-Year Berthing Agreement with Disney Cruise Line |
The US Port of Galveston has finalized a new agreement with cruise company Disney Cruise Line, extending preferential berthing agreement rights at the port for an additional 10 years.
The agreement also includes an option to renew two additional five year periods effective November 1, 2018.

COSCO Strengthens Presence in Singapore |
Hong Kong-listed port operator COSCO Shipping Ports has signed an official agreement with PSA Corporation Limited (PSA) for the addition of two new berths at the COSCO-PSA Terminal (CPT) in Singapore.
The final documents were signed following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked in November 2018.

Polish Szczecin Is Top Bulk Terminal In New BIMCO Report |
The best performing port, in BIMCO s Dry Bulk Terminals Vetting Report 2018, is Szczecin in Poland. The report collected input from 144 ships covering 381 terminals. A total of 97% of the reports were rated as average or better, which gave an average rating of 3.6 (out of five). The result is a marginal better than last year s results.

Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) handled the largest container vessel to ever call a Vietnamese port this month. The CMA CGM Marco Polo called at the terminal on January 11, 2019 as part of its FAL 3 Asia to Europe Trade Service.

Incumbents Welcome To Bid For Valencia Concession |
Valencia has confirmed that incumbent operators are free to participate in the tender for its fourth container terminal with no requirement to increase current capacity levels.
However, the tender document also allows incumbents to bid to develop a terminal with a capacity of 50% more than their existing facility and to then abandon their existing facility, benefitting from certain financial concessions.

Riga Port raises cargo turnover by more than 8 percent in 2018 |
The Freeport of Riga handled 36.4 million tons of various cargo in 2018, which was an 8.2 percent increase against a year before, the port s statistics show.
Growth was recorded in nearly all segments of cargo, except for oil products, which fell 27.6 percent, as well as chemical and metal cargos and ore.
