LPG tanker distressed in stormy seas, towed to safety, Norway |
LPG tanker CRYSTAL LAVENDER suffered engine failure west of Farsund, southern Norway, in the morning Feb 11, while en route from Portugal to port in Norway. Tanker started to drift towards Norway coast, tug FFS ATHOS (IMO 9714575) was deployed. Tanker was taken on tow at around 1830 UTC Feb 11, and towed to Lyngdal Norway, she was anchored at around 0300 UTC Feb 12.

SCPA Gets US Federal Grant for Wando Welch Terminal Upgrade |
South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) has been awarded a nearly USD 20 million federal grant to assist with building vital infrastructure at Wando Welch Terminal in support of the Charleston Harbor Deepening Project.
The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the Port Infrastructure Development Grant for S.C. Ports Wando Welch Terminal Wharf Toe Wall and Berth Deepening Project. The funds will go toward building a toe wall and deepening three berths at the Wando terminal.

Diana Secures Work for Newcastlemax |
Greek shipowner Diana Shipping has entered into a time charter contract with BHP Billiton Freight Singapore for one of its Newcastlemax dry bulk vessels, the m/v Philadelphia.
The gross charter rate is USD 14,500 per day for a period of minimum fourteen to maximum seventeen months. The charter commenced on February 5, 2020.
Previously, the 206,040 dwt bulker worked for Koch Shipping at a higher charter rate of USD 20,000 per day.

Seanergy Boasts Smooth Transition to IMO 2020 Compliance |
Athens-based Capesize shipowner Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp. completed the scrubber retrofits on half of its owned fleet, wrapping up its IMO 2020 compliance plan.
The company has retrofitted five Capesize vessels and the costs of the scrubber program were borne by the vessels charterers under long-term time charters secured in 2018 and 2019.

Post-Brexit UK to announce 10 new free ports |
With Brexit done, the United Kingdom plans to announce the location of up to 10 new free ports - scheduled to begin operating in 2021 - by the end of this year, the government said.
As the UK develops its own trade policy for the first time in decades after leaving the European Union at the end of January, the government has launched a 10-week consultation setting out its plans for the free ports, also known as free trade zones.
