Northern Kuril Islands cut off mainland after ferry collision, Russia Passenger ship GIPANIS, which is connecting Petropavlovsk Kamchatka with Severo-Kurilsk port, Paramushir island, northern Kuril Archipelago, collided with pier while berthing at Severo-Kurilsk on Sep 23. Bow stern was breached, hole was temporarily patched up, the ship sailed to Petropavlovsk Kamchatka for repairs same day, without passengers. Australia s New Antarctic Icebreaker Floated Damen Shipyards Galati has undertaken the float-out of Australia s new Antarctic icebreaker, RSV Nuyina. The procedure was achieved by raising the water level in the yard s dry dock by six metres; a process taking two days to complete. Pirates Kidnap 12 Crew off Nigeria Twelve crew members of a Swiss bulk carrier MV Glarus were taken hostage while in Nigerian waters on September 22, Reuters reports citing a statement from the ship s operator Massoel Shipping.

S.Korea: Growth of seaport cargo slows on Sino-U.S. trade row Cargo processed at South Korean seaports has grown at a slower-than-expected pace this year in the wake of an intensifying trade row between the United States and China, data showed Friday.

Cabotage law relaxation to boost trade at Cochin Port The long-awaited relaxation in the cabotage law, which prohibited foreign-flagged vessels from engaging in coastal shipping of the country, is expected to give a fillip to the trans-shipment volumes handled at Cochin Port.
