Gruesome pirates attack in Suriname waters, 16 fishermen missing Four fishing boats with twenty fishermen were attacked by pirates in Suriname waters, northeast South America, in the evening Mar 27, wrote AP. Pirates were armed with machetes and they forced fishermen to jump overboard, some with weights tied to their legs. Four fishermen managed to swim to shore, sixteen are missing. According to survivors statement the attackers judging from their accent, were from neighbouring Guyana. Coast Guard and fishing vessels of Fisheries Collective Association are searching for missing fishermen. Such violence is said to be rare, fishermen are attacked regularly, but usually pirates take the catch or boats engines.
