General cargo ship STEINAU suffered engine failure on Feb 20 in Bay of Biscay of Brittany, France, while en route from Spain to UK with cargo of paper reels. SAR tug ABEILLE BOURBON responded and approached disabled freighter early in the morning Feb 21. Container ship PHUC KHANH in the morning Feb 21 suffered engine failure while proceeding upstream in Soai Rap river, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, and drifted onto a tower crane deployed in construction of Phuoc Khanh Bridge. Tanker explosion, fire, 1 crew missing, Vietnam
In the afternoon Feb 19 shortcut caused an explosion, followed by fire, on board of tanker MEKONGTRANS 01 in Quang Nai waters, South Central Vietnam. Tanker according to track, was under way after completing cargo operations at Quang Nai Port, sailing south to Can Tho, southern Vietnam. Disabled LPG tanker under tow in Bristol Channel
LPG tanker SEAGAS MAJOR with a load of LPG suffered a turbocharger breakdown early Feb 18 shortly after leaving Milford Haven, Wales, Celtic sea. Tanker was taken on tow but had to be anchored, after towline broke. Attempts to resumed towage failed due to adverse weather. Abu Dhabis maritime and oil firms ink waterways safety deal - Arab News
Abu Dhabi Maritime and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) have signed an agreement to protect the UAE capitals waterways, state news agency WAM has reported.

Indian cruise ship providing quarantine floatel for Sri Lanka crew change
As part of the sea travel bubble services for crew changes, the ship has been serving seamen who have been stranded across the globe due to the limited frequency of flights to either return home or join ship in Covid-19 conditions.
"Seafarers disembark from their respective ships, and stay on our vessel for four to five days in quarantine mode, while they complete formalities for their departure from Sri Lanka," said Capt. Finland plans to extend seafarer certificate validity due to COVID
Finlands government is proposing that the validity of fixed-term ships crew certificates of competency and certificates of proficiency be extended due to the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic. IMO Urges Action to Deter Gulf of Guinea Piracy
The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Kitack Lim, has expressed his deep concern about the escalation in the number and severity of attacks on ships and crew in the Gulf of Guinea region.
