FIATA comes to India In September 2018 FFFAI (Federation of Freight Forwarders Association in India) would be hosting the first international Freight Forwarder's conference in New Delhi - the FIATA World Congress. It would be the first time an international conference on Logistics and Freight Forwarding would be held in India. What is there for the Indian Freight Forwarders? What can they look forward to in this mega conference?
FIATA (Federation Internationale Associations Transitaires Assimiles and in English and International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations) is the leading non governmental organization in the field of transportation and logistics. It is the global voice for Freight Forwarders, comprising of members from 126 countries.
The right to host the conference in India was wrested after a stiff competition from other countries wanting to hold this prestigious event.
Current chairman of the FIATA Congress Stanley Lim, in a recent press conference said that this would be an ideal opportunity for Indian Freight Forwarders to showcase their expertise and at the same time for the outside world to know the potentiality existing in Indian freight forwarding business. It would be an opportunity for the Indian Freight Forwarders to interact with their foreign counterparts not just to learn their best practices, but to build contacts and build partnerships.
FIATA covers multiple modes of transportation and is involved in policies that govern the freight forwarding industry. FIATA is segmented into Institutes, Advisory Bodies, and Working Groups.
Together they deal with every aspect international movement of cargo, including the latest developments and the future trends in the freight forwarding industry.
The conference in India also includes an event called YLP or Young Logistics Professional. This event is for university students to encourage them to join the logistics industry. FFFAI too has an institute to which conduct courses in freight forwarding. Freight forwarding is becoming big business in India. All the major multinational freight forwarding companies are already operating in India. It is of paramount importance to have qualified personnel administering shipments. Any lax in handling can have legal claims going into crores of money that can be devastating for any company. As Lim presciently said,"education is expensive, but ignorance costs more."
This conference is expected to be attended by over a thousand delegates. India has become the cynosure for the people who are interested to seek business opportunities in India. As Lim said the world was now looking at India. The world wants to know what was happening in India. With the various government initiatives manifesting itself in the improvement in the Ease of doing Business, their interest in India is definitely not unfounded. The timing of the conference is spot on.Posted On:16-Feb-2018
