Blocked Ponant cruise ship cancels New Zealand season A French, luxury cruise liner stopped at the New Zealand border has cancelled its summer season.
After 61 crew were refused work visas on route to Auckland, on Monday the ship Le Lapérouse was forced to sail 1800km to New Caledonia to refuel. 1 crew died, 3 injured after being hit by wave in stormy North Atlantic Bulk carrier GIULIA I left Norfolk Virginia, on Jan 26, bound for Tunisia Bizerte, ETA Feb 9, but had to interrupt her voyage on Jan 30 and head for Halifax, Nova Scotia, after a tragic accident. The ship was caught in rough weather, 1 crew was killed and 3 were injured. Reportedly, "they were hit by a high wave", so understood, they have been working on outer deck, and smashed by a wave. Iranian crude oil tanker grounding during Suez Canal transit Iranian Aframax tanker SAHRA ran aground on 123 kilometer mark, Suez Canal, below Great Bitter Lake, at around 1000 UTC Feb 1, while transiting Suez in northern direction, en route from Kharg island oil teminal Iran to Mediterranean region, probably for ship-to-ship transfer. Iran Says Crew of Detained South Korean Tanker Can Leave Iran has agreed to allow the crew members of a South Korean ship it seized for alleged environmental pollution to leave the country, Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Tuesday.

19 Abandoned Seafarers Go on Hunger Strike to Demand Wages 19 seafarers aboard the 1982-built bulker Ula have launched a hunger strike to protest their abandonment at the port of Shuaiba, Kuwait.
