2.2 tons of cocaine found on Neopanamax container ship.
1851 packages of cocaine, of total 2202 kilo weight, were found in containers on board of Neopanamax container ship MSC CARLOTTA at Callao port, according Chilean police official statement. The ship arrived at Callao on Apr 23, and most likely, police and anti-drug agency already knew where to look for. After Callao, the ship is to call Panama and then, Belgium, Antwerp, believed to be port of cocaine destination. No crew were detained, investigation is still going on, MSC CARLOTTA still berthed at Callao as of morning Apr 25. Highly unlikely crew or company or MSC agents have anything to do with busted drugs shipment.

The Future of Maritime Navigation and Communication: Innovative Services on the Maritime Connectivity Platform
What is the current status of information exchange in maritime navigation and communication? How do companies in maritime shipping make use of the new possibilities of data exchange and information transmission? And can efficiency and safety in maritime shipping be improved sustainably?
The Maritime Connectivity Platform MCP provides answers to these questions. The communication platform provides new applications based on open standards for shipping and maritime transport systems with the aim of enabling efficient, secure, reliable and seamless electronic information exchange. The MCP is based on an operating system-independent open source technology that is accessible to registered users via different transmission protocols and enables the seamless digital connection of different communication systems and terminals.
The platform was originally conceived as "Maritime Cloud". But it was not until 2015 that the offering of content and the expansion of the user community accelerated. This development was based on cooperation of the EU-funded projects "EfficienSea2", "STM Validation Project" and the "SMART Navigation Project", financed by South Korea. Almost 100 users have now joined the platform.
The MCP initially addresses the e-Navigation strategy of the International Maritime Organization IMO. This includes an improved bridge design, standardized and automated reporting, as well as the improvement of navigation information, graphic requirements and Vessel Traffic Service communication. In addition, the MCP aims to promote digitization in the maritime sector as a whole and take into account the objectives of the South Korean and EU initiatives for electronic navigation.
The main components for the implementation of the services of the MCP are, besides the Maritime Identity Registry of the users, the Maritime Service Registry and the Maritime Messaging Service. In the Maritime Service Registry, users can use free and fee-based services from different providers. Potential commercial and non-commercial institutions can become providers themselves by providing their own applications or only specifications on the platform. During the STM Validation project, for example, the Voyage Information Service (VIS) was specified and designed. The specification was made available through the Service Registry and various interested partners have implemented instances that have been used for real-world testing.
The Maritime Messaging Service enables the exchange of public and private information across different system boundaries and thus sustainably improves the data exchange between ship and shore.
On February 8 2019, the Maritime Connectivity Platform Consortium (MCC) was founded at the conference "e-Navigation underway 2019" with a signing ceremony. The task of the consortium is to operate a test environment for the Maritime Connectivity Platform and to develop and monitor its framework conditions.
In order to accompany these developments, the MCC will be established as a neutral and independent consortium of interested parties. It will act as a coordinator for the provision of guidelines and standards. The MCC will adopt the open structure of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and interested parties will be encouraged to join to contribute their own ideas and competencies.
Founding members of the MCC are OFFIS, Germany, KRISO, Republic of Korea, RISE, Sweden, University of Copenhagen, Denmark and the General Lighthouse Authorities of UK and Ireland. The Danish Maritime Authority (DMA), the Swedish Maritime Administration (SMA) and the Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea (MOF) join as government observers.
As a consortium member, the CML, with its expertise in the development of information systems and in the maritime industry, will make a major contribution to the further development of standards for the secure and seamless exchange of information via the MCP. The MCP has the potential to drive forward digitization in the shipping industry in a focused and future-oriented way.

EU Helps Fund Extension of Polish LNG Terminal
The Polish government and the Polskie LNG company have reached an agreement on the extension of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Swinoujscie, in north-western Poland on the Baltic Sea coast.
According to the European Commission, on April 24 the parties signed a grant agreement under which around EUR 128 million (USD 142.6 million) from the European Regional Development Fund would be invested in extending the terminal, which is the only facility of its size in Northern, Central and Eastern Europe.
"The extension of the Swinoujscie terminal will help diversify natural gas supply sources and improve the country s energy security. This is a new example of the Energy Union in motion, supported by Cohesion Policy," Corina Creţu, Commissioner for Regional Policy, said.
The current investment comes on top of more than EUR 250 million of Cohesion Policy funds already invested in the terminal and more than EUR 2 billion invested in Polish energy infrastructure since 2007.
The terminal expansion project is on the European list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI). Together with the Baltic Pipe project, for which a EUR 215 million EU grant was signed just last week, the new LNG terminal in Swinoujscie will open Poland’s gas market to new suppliers enhancing the diversity and security of energy sources in Poland.
The Baltic pipe will allow, as of 2022, the shipment of gas from the North Sea to the Polish market and further to the Baltic States and neighbouring countries. At the same time, the pipeline will enable the supply of gas from Poland, via the LNG terminal, to the Danish and Swedish markets.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Expands Fleet with New HERO Unit
Shipping firm Wallenius Wilhelmsen has taken delivery of the Post-Panamax vessel MV Traviata.
On its maiden voyage, Traviata s first ports of call will be in Japan, loading in Omaezaki and Higashiharima. It will then sail the Asia-North America trade route.
The vessel is the second of a series of four Post-Panamax HERO vessels, with a capacity equivalent to 8,000 cars and electrically hoistable deck panels, ordered by the company for its ocean fleet.
The units have a combined capacity of 24,000 car equivalent units (CEUs).
"Traviata s sister Titus, the first vessel of this HERO class, has now been in operation for 10 months and proven that all design efforts have paid off," Michael Hynekamp, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean s COO, said.
"The vessel class is setting a new benchmark in terms of energy efficiency, improving consumption with approximately 15%, resulting in considerably reduced emission levels compared to similar vessels in the global fleet."
MV Titus was delivered in June 2018, while the third HERO vessel is scheduled for delivery later this year and the fourth in early 2020. Titus and Traviata are the first large car and truck carriers (LCTCs) built at CSIC Xingang and the first Chinese-built LCTCs in the WW ocean fleet, the company said.
With a bunker system that can operate on different bunker qualities and segregations, Traviata is also prepared for Sulphur 2020 implementation.

COSCO England Collides with Another Ship at Port Kelang
COSCO England, a Neopanamax containership owned by COSCO Shipping Lines, collided with another vessel while berthing at a port in Malaysia.
The incident occurred at Port Kelang on April 21, 2019, according to a statement issued by Westports Malaysia.
As informed, the Hong Kong-flagged COSCO England and another, yet unnamed vessel collided while approaching the wharves of Westports through the South Channel.
"Both vessels were subsequently safely secured at our berths to commence their operations and, at the same time, the relevant authorities also commenced their investigation into the incident," Westports said on April 22.
"As of now, both vessels are presently conducting relevant surveys and repairs at our berths and it is anticipated that we would be losing 600 meters of wharf space due to this for the next 7 days."
In a separate update, OOCL said that there were no casualties or OOCL container damage as a result of the incident involving the 13,386 TEU COSCO England.
Westports added that it expects some berthing delays in the next week. However, the incident has not impacted channel and port operations.
"We continue to facilitate the requirement of both vessels to ensure safe sailing from here to their next destination," Westports continued.

COSCO Shipping International Eyes Expansion in Malaysian Market
COSCO Shipping International (Singapore) Co., Ltd. has unveiled plans to expand its logistics business operations in Malaysia.
As informed, the group is taking steps to grow business in Malaysia by obtaining a lease of a piece of land in the port area of Port Klang and constructing a warehouse.
The warehouse would have approximately 300,000 square feet on the land for the group s operations.
What is more, the company is currently in negotiation with an unnamed party in Malaysia for potential cooperation which may involve the proposed acquisition of certain logistics businesses or the collaboration of a logistics partnership business in Malaysia.
"The Board is of the view that the above plans, if materialised, will provide synergies to allow the group to form an integrated platform for the company s logistics business in Malaysia," COSCO Shipping International (Singapore) said.
"The group will also collaborate with other COSCO Shipping companies in Malaysia to achieve further synergies for its Malaysian businesses."
COSCO Shipping International (Singapore) added it has not entered into any definitive agreement for any of the foregoing plans.

Royal Caribbean Cuts Steel for 5th Oasis Cruise Ship
Royal Caribbean International has celebrated the start of construction of its fifth Oasis class ship at the Chantiers de l Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.
The first steel plate of the new unit (hull 34) was cut on April 24. The latest Oasis class ship is scheduled to be delivered in spring 2021.
This is the third unit to be built by Chantiers de l Atlantique for the company. The shipbuilder said that the hull of the new cruise ship will be composed of about 400,000 machined steel parts, just like its sister ships Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas, which were delivered in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
"The fifth Oasis Class ship will combine the iconic seven-neighborhood concept that its sister ships feature with a bold and unexpected lineup of thrilling experiences, imaginative dining, unparalleled entertainment and the latest technology," Royal Caribbean International said.
The cruise line ordered the vessel from the French shipyard in May 2016.
In February this year, the company entered into an agreement with Chantiers de l Atlantique to order the sixth Oasis ship for delivery in the fall of 2023. The order is contingent upon financing, which is expected to be completed in the second or third quarter of 2019, the company earlier said.

Sudan suspends Philippine port operator contract pending cancellation -statement
Sudan s military rulers suspended a contract with Philippine port operator International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI ) pending its cancellation, the country s Transitional Military Council (TMC) said in a statement.
Workers at Port Sudan s southern container terminal went on strike in February to protest against a 20-year concession signed in January for an ICTSI subsidiary to operate, manage and develop the South Port Container Terminal at Port Sudan.

ADNOC Sends First Calcined Coke Shipment to China
ADNOC Logistics & Services-chartered cargo ship Lucky Ocho is en route to Yantai, China, with a maiden load of 10,500 tons of UAE-produced calcined coke.
The first shipment was loaded by ADNOC Refining, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and is set to arrive in China by the end of April 2019.

Klaveness Agrees COAs for Its New Combination Carriers
Norwegian shipping company Klaveness Combination Carriers has signed a Contract of Affreightment (COA) for its new generation of combination carriers, the CLEANBUs.
The deal was signed between a Klaveness subsidiary and an undisclosed Australian importer and distributer of clean petroleum products (CPP). The COA covers multiple cargoes over a period of up to 12 months with commencement in the second quarter 2019.

Tanker explosion, fire, two workers injured, Indonesia
Product tanker SUCCESS ENERGY XXXII suffered explosion, followed by fire, in starboard cargo tanks area, at 1725 LT Apr 24, in Sungai Raya Shipyard, Karimunbesar island, Riau Islands, Singapore Strait. Tanker is undergoing repairs, two shipyard workers were carrying out wielding works, probably cargo tanks still held some oil fumes, which were inflamed by sparks. Both wrokers reportedly suffered serious burns, both were taken to hospital.
