Singapore is a leading nation in terms of providing logistic solution internationally
Singapore is considered to be one of the well maintained nations, in terms of high-quality infrastructure and high standards of performance in logistics, these are the major factors that contribute to appeal tourists and businesses, and eventually positions Singapore as one of the best destinations in the Asian continent.
The country has always been welcoming and corporate friendly economy.
According to the survey conducted by World Bank’s Doing Business, out of number of 189 countries Singapore ranks first in terms of performing businesses activities easily. It has also been leading the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Business Environment Index for many years. Also, as per World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report, it is ranked second after Switzerland.
The new port, which is expected to commence by 2025 and will take several phases. it is planned that the port can accommodate 65 million TEUs per annum – and larger than the current capacity of 50%. The country has a great past in the domain of maritime, which it wants to sustain and would also want maintain its position of one of the leading international shipping ports futuristically.

Transportation Ministry gives concession rights to state-owned port
On Tuesday, the Transportation Ministry gives concession rights to state-owned port operator Pelindo III to run Teluk Lamong Port in Gresik, East Java, and Pelindo IV to run Makassar New Port in South Sulawesi.
To operate Teluk Lamong Port, Plindo III, was given the concession rights. It handles 15 ports in the central part of the country.
On this Friday, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo would be inaugurating the port. Port is built on an area of 40 hectares and can accommodate 1.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) and 10.3 million tons of dry bulk capacity per annum currently.
“Right now the port can accommodate 500,000 TEUs at its domestic container terminal and 1 million TEUs at its international container terminal,” Pelindo III president director Mr Djarwo Sujanto mentioned to the press.
He further said that we have started the second phase of work scheduled to be, which will be finished by next year. The investment to build a pier, stacking yards, power plants and cranes would be Rp 7 trillion. We foresee that the port will attain largest capacity within a span of two to three years.With opening of the new port, Pelindo IV wishes to growth capacity to manage containers of large volumes in Makassar.
Currently, the port has a 700,000 TEU capacity and has handled 560,000 TEUs in the previous year.

King Abdullah Port witnesses the first Maersk vessel
In collaboration with Maersk Line, King Abdullah Port (KAP), which is owned and developed by Ports Development Company witnessed Maersk Line first vessel. The occasion has made functional to receive Maersk Line vessels and containers.
The occasion was attended by a many officials rom the Saudi Coastal Guards, Saudi Customs, Economic Cities Authorities, Abdullah bin Mohamed Hameedaddin MD at Ports Development Company (PDC), Mark Gijsbrechts, chief executive WCA Region at Maersk Line, Ziad Kanaan, board member at National Container Terminal Company, as well as several senior officials from PDC and clients of Maersk Line in Saudi Arabia.It was a celebration time to announce one of Maersk Line’s largest vessels, which is 398-meter long.
To celebrate the collaboration, people boarded the vessel at the time of arrival.
The crew were invited by Abdullah bin Mohamed Hameedaddin MD at Ports Development Company (PDC)on board and as a gesture of commendable job the captain was gifted with a souvenir.
“We are pleased to host the arrival of world’s largest container shipping line at King Abdallah Port, we are dedicated to deliver the unique services which are of premium quality for the purpose of trade.” as told by Mr Hameedaddin.

Nippon Foundation promises to give financial aid to World Maritime University
With a promise to support World Maritime University (WMU) , Nippon Foundation, is pleased to announce that it will give financial aid to the university. The World Maritime University (WMU) was established in the year 1983 by the
International Maritime Organization (IMO). WMU is based in Malmo, Sweden to deliver postgraduate courses and also has a research centre.
Mr Yohei Sasakawa - Nippon Foundation Chairman commented, “ we are ready to raise funds of US$ 100 million, With a thought that World Maritime University would be position itself as a pioneer in providing scientific research in the marine field, and an educational body that creates candidates to have the right aptitude to tackle the task at the sea level.”
Also, Nippon Foundation has promised to fund an amount of US$3 million to support the current a further student fellowship programme yearly for ten years consecutive years.

In short span of time Human Right At Sea is now a registered charity
Since its inception in April 2014, now Human Rights at Sea (HRAS) has been recognised as a registered charity in England and Wales just in a short span of thirteen months.
Human Right At Sea’s main focus is to increase the knowledge, execution and responsibility of human rights clause in the whole maritime world, specifically in the areas where it is inattentive, neglected and is mishandled. The rights are being legally founded. It has been lawfully established and embodied constituted with the help of authority and federal administration.
Mr David Hammond - Founder & CEO of HRAS, commented, “The growth of Human Rights in the maritime domain is exceptionally expeditious, in the form of initiative as well charity.”
“Human Rights At Sea would be extending its support to the maritime human aspects, promoting CSR (corporate social responsibility) and our aim is to sustain HRAS.”
On HRAS’s achievement, Mr Martin Foley - National Director, Apostleship of the Sea & HRAS Board of Advisors commented,“In a short span of time, HRAS has positioned itself a s one of the leading bodies to advocate for the rights of sailors.And a registered charity now it would come forward to fight for the basic rights of the sailors who are refused.”
