Vietnamese shipyards to construct specialised ships for maritime research & survey purpose
According to the reports given on government website chinhphu.vn, Vietnamese shipyards will be chosen through limited tender procedures to be selected to construct specialised ships for maritime research and survey purposes, after the approval given by by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

As per the website reports on Friday, But, the permitted ones are those who are member companies of the Hanoi-based Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC), are who can join those tenders to achieve the rights to construct ships.

Prime Minister Dung has given responsibility to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to work in accordance with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance to generate required capital for this project.


The three ministries are asked to select shipbuilders to speed up the execution of the project and to fulfil the needs of maritime research and survey tasks which will make sure investment effectiveness.

It was approved by honourable prime minister in the end of year 2014, to construct ships for maritime research and survey purpose.

Post the approval, the premier has agreed to fund VND200 billion for any firms involved in the project and for which the last day is before June 30, 2015.

China on plans of forming ADIZ to safeguard maritime
Today China announced that it would be structuring air defence identification zone, in case of threatening maritime security.

Brushing aside US' demand to halt its reclamation work in the disputed South China Sea, China today hinted forming an air(ADIZ) if its maritime security is threatened.

Admiral Sun Jianguo - deputy chief of staff of the People's Liberation Army replied to a query at regional security forum Shangri-La Dialogue, “The creation of ADIZ in South China Sea would rely on any kind of threats pertaining to air or maritime security.”

China has decided to regain its option of building the ADIZ if it is pulled in the SCS by US and other world powers, he commented.

It is essential by ADIZ that if an incoming aircraft needs to fly in the air routes above the islands, taking into account civilian airlines, so it must be register with the Chinese authority.

The nation was determined and built an ADIZ in the waters around the controversial islands along with Japan in East China Sea, even after opposition from Japan, US and other nations.


China has made the ADIZ option in the SCS, if executed could arise tensions in East Asia because Beijing thoughts are widely opposed by Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.

Commencement of New Container service between Gothenburg and Germany
There is a new container service has started between Gothenburg and Germany for Swedish imports and exports has commenced. On June at Gothenburg, the first ship is scheduled to operate.

Hapag-Lloyd which is a German container shipping line, is starting its second service in Gothenburg. Hapag-Lloyd is ranked as one of the largest liner shipping companies globally and the network of destinations covered are very wide that is its covered by its fleet globally.

commented, “It is a great opportunity for Swedish industry that Hapag-Lloyd is expanding its traffic to Gothenburg. The new service will further reinforce our wide launching its services that includes range of liner services and being ranked as the largest freight hub in Scandinavia,”

With the launch on June 9, the ships will call twice in a week at the Port of Gothenburg container terminal, APM Terminals.

Mr Dirk Kaestner, Managing Director of Hapag Lloyd Sweden commented, “In short span of few months recently, bookings to and from Gothenburg have grown and to complete the demand on the critical swedish market we have summed up a call to Gothenburg.

Thome Ship Management establishes a new office in Oslo, Norway

Recently, Thome which is a ship management company which was established in Singapore 52 years ago, made an announcement of establishing a brand new office in Norway’s esteemed shipping and ship-finance district of the nation’s capital, Oslo.

Series of deaths of crew members & a member missing on board of the coal carrier Glebe Coroners Court investigating
One of the crew member disappeared and three mysterious deaths on board, whicbis considered to be one of the world’s biggest coal carriers has risen many eyebrows and has created worrisome situation.

The Glebe Coroners Court is conducting the interrogation whether the deaths of the 3 crew members on board the Sage Sagittarius, in a span of six-week period in 2012, were accidents or murders.

The chief cook, Fillipino Cesar Llanto, was missing from the ship of the coal carrier in August 2012 as it was heading towards Australian waters.After two weeks of this incident, Hector Collado was murdered when the ship was moored at the Port of Newcastle. A Japanese superintendent Kosaku Monji,was crushed in a conveyer belt as the Sage Sagittarius docked in Japan and he also died.

Council assisting Philip Strickland said the deaths were “highly suspicious”.
“A suggestion that all three died accidentally must mean that a number of seemingly unrelated events occurred coincidentally,” he said.

As reported by a witness, the captain of the ship allegedly bullied and assaulted crew member.

The court said that there were issues on board and few crew members, including Mr Llanto, were supposed to make a complain against the captain, Venancio Salas, to the management officials for alleged physical assaults and harassment.

Sailors aims to achieve at least 3 golds
Philippine sailing team will not get settled with gold-medal shutout identical to their Burma (Myanmar) experience which they experienced two years ago.

The Filipino sailors reached the rich island city-state sooner on May 20, before they officially started sailing in the 28th Southeast Asian Games.
“Mr Judes Echauz - Sailing Chief said, “I believe we have a fair opportunity. We will be able to achieve minimum of three gold medals,”
There are 13 sailors—titled by the tandem of Ridgely Balladeers and Richly Magsanay—on June 6 which will have14 races on the choppy waters of the National Sailing Center and the peaceful waters of Marina Bay.
The participants of the team are Rommel Chavez, Yancy Kaibigan, Rubin Cruz Jr., Lester Troy Tayong, Emerson Villena, Jerene Durana, Cyrin Guingona, Rheycilla Manaog, Rye Lee Caasi and Alaiza Mae Belmonte.
The gold medals would be attained from the keelboat and international 470 class events. as told by Echauz, who is the president of the Philippine Sailing Association and board member of the Philippine Olympic Committee.
The Filipinos are determined to out a full stop to the gold-medal drought in the 20 sailing events scheduled in the Games.
In 2005 at Manila, German Paz was the last Filipino SEA Games gold medalist.

Navy is determined not to lose their talent and currently it is planning to expand the number of slots for those who want to lot for three years off.
The Career Intermission Program provides sailors a small portion of their base pay per month for s period of 36 months. After that they can join back their respective duties with no consequences for promotions.
This program commencement was on a small platform, with 20 billets for every officers and enlisted, however a latest proposal on Capitol Hill is expected to expand the program by 10 times.
Currently, 82 sailors have been accepted to Career Intermission Program in the seventh year. From 2009 which had one male officer the program has increased, and in the year 2015 with 13. There are 10 enlisted and 85 percent women. However, it is just a third of the available billets.
Currently, Navy has asked Congress to increase the billets to 400, broaden eligibility and create elasticity in terms of participation and, in few cases, fair payment.
Once it is approved, it would pave the way for new menu of options, for e.g.,allowing the participants, avail a shorter break with increased pay in return for a longer service obligation once they are back.

On Saturday afternoon, a ship was on fire off Mumbai’s coast, becoming a threat to the lives of 33 sailors onboard, By the grace of god, there were no injuries caused to them.
According to the details shared by the Coast Guard officer, “On Sunday at around 2:20 pm, the Indian Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre based at Mumbai got a distress alert at Mumbai high from a supply vessel Vestfonn. The ship was at about 200 kms west of Mumbai. The ship informed that there was a major fire in engine room that was getting worse. However, there were no reports. The condition prompted for firefighting and evacuating the crew onboard, which were 33.
As a matter of fact, to carry out surveillance an aircraft was diverted, and co-ordinating with the merchant ships sailing in the proximity.
A call was answered by an Offshore Support Vessel for evacuation. There were 3 Coast Guard Ships named ICGS Achook, ICGS Sankalp and ICGS Samudra Prahari., that were assigned for the rescue operations and firefighting.
Commander Rahul Sinha, defence spokesperson“28 crew were evacuated by the ships out of the total 33 crew members. To manage the situation onboard five crew members were still there.
Sunday evening, by 7.30 pm, fire was under control and ONGC ship Malviya 24 towed the affected ship.
