USCG Offloads 150 Kilos of Cocaine in San Juan. On Saturday, the crew of the fast response cutter Donald Horsley offloaded about 150 kilos of cocaine and handed over three suspected smugglers to federal law enforcement in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The seized drugs are estimated to have a wholesale value of more than $5.6 million. The three suspects are in U.S. custody and face criminal charges for drug smuggling.Posted On:16-Jun-2020

Major fire in Yanpu Fishing Port, Taiwan. Fire engulfed several ocean-going fishing vessels, longliner type, at Yanpu Fishing Port, Pingtung County, southwest Taiwan, in the afternoon Jun 15. Witnesses said they ve heard at least two explosions prior to fire. A thick black smoke is billowing from harbor towards town, scaring locals off. Chinese Panamax bulk carrier stuck with jammed rudder, Rio de la Plata Panamax bulk carrier PHOENIX OCEAN arrived at Montevideo anchorage, Uruguay, on May 29, understood on tow, from Zarate Argentina, and as of Jun 15, was still at anchor. Fully laden ship understood to suffer jammed rudder, angled some 17 degrees from amidships position. Reportedly, rudder was twisted and jammed while the ship was at San Nicolas, Parana river, Argentina. Tsakos Naval Industries, Uruguay, is said to be contracted for repairs. Attempts to right and repair rudder at anchorage said to fail, so the ship is undergoing preparations required for entering Montevideo, to be berthed at Bulk Terminal.Posted On:16-Jun-2020

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) recognises the importance of seafarers and crew change to safeguard the health and safety of seafarers sailing on board ships.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, MPA continues to facilitate the disembarkation of seafarers on medical grounds, for compassionate reasons and for contracts which cannot be further extended. ITF: Enough is Enough Saying the Deadline for Crew Change is Over. After weeks of calling on governments to facilitate maritime crew changes and designate the millions of workers in critical transport industries as key workers, the International Transport Works Federation (ITF) issued a statement to seafarers saying simply, "Enough is enough."
The ITF had repeatedly said in its calls for action that June 16 was the deadline for governments to implement the IMO protocols that would make crew changes possible. Carnival Cruise Line to Complete Repatriation of Over 26,000 Crew Members. Carnival Cruise Line completed a cross-country transfer in Panama as it expects to complete the repatriation of over 26,000 crew members in the coming weeks.

Shipping companies encouraged to use crew change form. BIMCO is joining the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in a call to encourage shipping companies or masters to fill in a Crew Change Report Form launched by ICS and thereby help encouraging Governments to facilitate crew change throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Indonesia - Tug with 13 crew missing in South China sea. Tug SUMBER MARINE 5 with 13 crew on board, towing barge SUMBER KAPUAS 232, went missing in southern South China sea N of Bangka Island, Indonesia, after issuing distress signal at around 0300 UTC Jun 15. Tug was towing barge from Batam island, Singapore Strait, to Banjarmasin, southern Kalimantan, Indonesia. SAR was launched.
