Yamal LNG Sends 1st LNG Shipment to Japan
Yamal LNG, a joint venture LNG production project in Sabetta, Russia, has shipped the first cargo of LNG to Japan under the long-term offtake agreement with Total.
The cargo was unloaded at the Tobata LNG Terminal in accordance with the buyers lifting and delivery schedule, Russian gas producer Novatek said.
"Commencing LNG shipments to the Japanese market represents an important milestone for the company as Japan is an important LNG market and one of the priority destinations in our LNG marketing strategy," Leonid Mikhelson, Novatek s Chairman of the Management Board, commented.
"Further development of our logistical chain using the Northern Sea Route and a transshipment terminal in Kamchatka will expand LNG supplies to Japan as well as strengthen trade and economic links between our respective countries".
As the largest independent natural gas producers in Russia, Novatek entered in 2017 the global gas market by successfully launching the Yamal LNG project. The JV is owned and operated by a partnership comprised of Novatek (50.1%), Total (20%), CNPC (20%), and the Silk Road Fund (9.9%). It aims to tap natural gas reserves totaling more than 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BOE).

OOCL Improving Vessel Storage with Navis Tools
Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has chosen Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, to provide stowage planning software StowMan to its entire fleet.
The fleet of over 100 containerships, ranging from 2,900 to 21,400 TEU, are planned by stowage planners who are based in strategic planning regions.
With the multifunctional stowage operation system of StowMan, vessel planners will be able to optimize the stowage planning results for fleet utilization based on improved visibility and efficiency, Navis explained.
StowMan is capable of utilizing the results of the stability and stress calculations, slot definitions and lashing rules as well as dangerous goods segregation and stowage rules produced by the onboard loading computer MACS3, which parts of the OOCL fleet are equipped with, Navis continued.
In February 2019, with the help of StowMan, ONE has broken the last reported world record for the largest amount of cargo ever stowed, carrying over 19,100 TEU onboard the MOL Tribute. The record load surpasses the record previously announced by Maersk at 19,038 TEU, achieved in August 2018.

Carnival Vista to Undergo Azipod Repairs in Bahamas
Carnival Cruise Line revealed that it would take its ship Carnival Vista out of service on July 9 for azipod repairs.
The company said that the vessel will transit to Freeport, Bahamas, where it is scheduled to undergo repair at a dry dock.
Carnival added that it is completing negotiations and planning with a shipping vessel operator on a protocol that will be "a first-of-its-kind procedure to facilitate the repair," given the current lack of facilities at Grand Bahama Shipyard.
The cruise major is working with ABB, the azipod manufacturer, to complete the repairs and return the Carnival Vista to Galveston for the scheduled July 27 sailing.

MSC Hires MacGregor for Cargo Systems Upgrade on Six Ships
Swiss container shipping major MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has signed a contract with MacGregor and Guangzhou Wenchong Dockyard to upgrade cargo systems on six 16,000 TEU containerships owned and operated by the company.
The upgrades will be implemented during drydocking in 2020, the parties said without revealing any further contractual details.
MacGregor and MSC have together defined and developed the cargo system solution for these vessels.
"The objective was to determine the best solution for the operating profile and to deliver a modern, efficient and environmentally-friendly upgraded cargo system," Magnus Sjoberg, Senior Vice President, Cargo Handling and RoRo, MacGregor, said.
"MacGregor s Cargo Boost is a good example how we can drive down the energy required to transport each individual container and reduce emissions per transported TEU," Giuseppe Gargiulo Head of Department, New Building, Dry Dock and Conversions, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, concluded.

Digital freight logistics firm Cogoport launches e-shipping platform in Chennai
Cogoport - India's leading digital freight logistics business - is setting up office in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu to meet significant interest and demand from shippers. Cogoport - which has already established its presence in cities such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi/NCR, Rajkot, Pune, Jaipur and Rotterdam (Netherlands) - will now provide its range of export / import services to customers in Chennai and the wider Tamil Nadu region.
The development will boost strong demand for the export of products including cement, granite, leather, coir based products, seafood and agricultural commodities from the city port, while importers will also benefit from Cogoport's newly launched import services from numerous points in Asia and Europe to India. The team will also extend its presence to Coimbatore and Tuticorin, both of which serve as the hub for auto, spices and textiles and goods made of coir.
In line with Cogoport's belief in fostering young and diverse leaders and entrepreneurs, the Chennai region will be headed by 26-year-old Keerthi Nagendra. She previously worked with the AP Moller-Maersk group. A IIIT Allahabad graduate who holds a MBA degree from the prestigious Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) in Delhi, Keerthi then joined the Danish shipping giant where she held positions within Customer Service and Account Management, managing a portfolio worth US$15 million. She established the group's e-retail and e-logistics verticals within India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Cogoport founder and CEO Purnendu Shekhar said: "Chennai and the wider Tamil Nadu state is a vibrant location for the development of SMEs - notably those that support the area's industrial base in the automobile, computer, technology, hardware manufacturing and healthcare sectors. We have been waiting to launch Cogoport in Chennai and now, in Keerthi Nagendra, have found someone who can take our business forward in this important region."
He continued: "This is a significant step forward for Cogoport. Shippers now have a single ebooking platform to plan their logistics more easily and still take advantage of the 10-15% savings that customers tell us that we typically generate on their shipping costs.
Sharing her views, Keerthi said:"I'm really excited to take up the challenge of establishing Cogoport's foothold in the Tamil Nadu region, which has huge market potential and is a big step forward for us. My early conversations with customers demonstrates that shippers are yet to truly adopt technology or understand the benefits that digitisation can have for their export and import supply chain. Our customers are already enjoying significant savings on the cost of their logistics with Cogoport and on the time otherwise spent making multiple calls to investigate the best partner for each and every shipment. Cogoport can add significant value to the SME community here by offering them greater productivity, service effectiveness and profitability."
Cogoport's technology, algorithms and analytics enable its users to manage their logistics more easily and responsively - with a choice of providers on port pairs, dedicated back-end booking confirmation and seamless shipment tracking. Users not only benefit from faster decision-making, transparent pricing and lower shipping costs but also automatically earn rewards on future shipments and from 90+ brand partners.
Cogoport launched its innovative digital freight marketplace in 2017, transforming the way customers previously booked their cargo shipments.
The Cogoport web platform removes the complexity that otherwise exists in the process of shipping containers - offering a comparative list of transparent pricing from more than 60 major international shipping line providers on city pairs across the globe. Cogoport also works with more than 40 non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs) and 300 freight forwarders.
This single online platform has already attracted over 27,000 registered users, who can select their best solution in minutes, reducing the time previously spent on booking shipments, unnecessary complexity and their costs. Users can track the progress of their consignment at every stage of its journey, in real time, making life simpler for all involved in the logistics chain.
Cogoport is headquartered in Mumbai and has 12 offices across India and the Netherlands.

Maj Gen Rambir Singh Mann VSM, ADG, NCC, was the chief guest and Vice-Admiral HS Malhi (retd) AVSM, VSM, was the guest of honour. Chief Officer Simran Mann motivated young women to join merchant navy.

The panellists discussed the challenges and opportunities for women in maritime activities, particularly seafaring. Speakers emphasised that women seafarers were considered by International Maritime Organisation (IMO) as an underutilised and an underdeveloped resource and that if the number of women in seafaring was increased, it could solve the problem of crew shortage. Balbir Singh Mangat, president, MNOA, urged the shipping companies to unlock the doors of opportunities for women in seafaring and demanded to make safe work environment for them.
Ajit Singh, general secretary, MNOA said, "There is a need for proper maritime laws that should be framed to avoid sexual harassment cases against women."
