MAERSK container ship disabled by explosion, UPDATE - Maritime Bulletin Container ship LAURA MAERSK suffered an explosion in engine room, which injured one crew and disabled the ship, late Jun 4 in North Atlantic, SE of Newark, USA. CG helicopter couldn’t make it both ways to medevac injured crew, so helicopter landed on Navy destroyer USS MAHAN, and took off from destroyer after approaching damaged LAURA MAERSK. Malta: Migrants hijack the vessel, threaten the crew and get what they demand - Maritime Bulletin On Jun 6, over 400 migrants held offshore on four tourist boats were allowed to disembark in Malta, after migrants on board of one of these boats, EUROPA II, rioted and effectively, hijacked the boat, holding the crew on the bridge, threatening them with stolen knives and giving Malta authorities half an hour to meet their demand of immediate disembarkation. They threatened to blow up gas cylinder and start fire on board, as if taking boat under their control and threatening crew weren’t enough, to deliver their message. India: 950 stranded seafarers reach Mumbai port - Free Press Journal Around 950 crew members stranded at different foreign destinations finally returned to India. On Saturday morning, cruise liner Ovation of the Seas reached Mumbai port with Indian crew members.
"Currently the ship is anchored in the sea and a team of doctors have been sent inside the ship to conduct Covid-19 tests. All the Indian crew members have undergone testing and results are expected in two days," said an official from Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT). Indian seafarers on cargo ships starts returning on chartered flights after extended time at sea In a first since the pandemic halted crew change on ships globally, 21 Indian seafarers of Synergy Marine Group returned to India on a chartered flight arranged by the Singapore-based ship management company.
This is the first chartered flight that was arranged to carry seafarers working on cargo ships back to India.
