Shipmanagement Utopian self-defence plans During recent Leaders in Shipmanagement webinar discussions, some issues of which I already analyzed (scathed, to be correct), one very important problem was raised - it happened to be indeed, most important issue of the whole event.
"We do need a lobbyist, and that goes as an industry as a whole," said Columbia Shipmanagement CEO O Neil, …" to communicate shipping fundamental issues to parties outside the industry".
"In these fundamental areas we need to have one voice, whether it s safety, whether it s creating a sustainable future, or it s about seafarers well-being," commented Synergy Marine Group CEO Rajesh Unni.Posted On:15-Sep-2020

Trapped by pandemic, ships crews fight exhaustion and despair. Ralph Santillan, a merchant seaman from the Philippines, hasn t had shore leave in half a year. It has been 18 months since he reported for duty on his ship, which hauls corn, barley and other commodities around the world. It has been even longer since he saw his wife and son.
"There s nothing I can do," Santillan said late last month from his ship, a 965-foot bulk carrier off South Korea. "I have to leave to God whatever might happen here."Posted On:15-Sep-2020

The cyber imperative: a vessel as one digital ecosystem. The shipping industry is on a voyage to a new horizon, this time it is digital.
We are already in the era of the connected ship, where we are witnessing the digitalisation of the asset, with increased levels of remote monitoring, more data collection and analysis points, with the digitalisation of operational technology (OT).
The next phase will be digitalised ships, where crew-operated vessels remain the norm but with increased remote assistance using industrial IoT and real time analytics.Posted On:15-Sep-2020
