Gulf Livestock 1 had navigational issues, authorities say. The investigation into the sinking of Gulf Livestock 1 that left 40 crew members missing, including 36 Filipinos, may likely center on the history of the Panamanian-flagged vessel which allegedly logged mechanical defects and operational concerns over the past two years.
This developed as the Japanese Coast Guard suspended its search and rescue for the missing crew due to a typhoon that is currently wreaking havoc in the area where the Dubai-based livestock cargo vessel was believed to have sunk in the early morning of Wednesday, September 2.Posted On:7-Sep-2020

Covid-19 restrictions threaten shipping lanes and crew. The closure of international borders, flight caps and quarantine procedures owing to Covid-19 pose a grave threat to global shipping supply chains and the welfare of seafarers, the head of Australia's maritime safety authority has warned.
Mick Kinley, chief executive of Australian Maritime Safety Authority (Amsa), said there was an increasing risk that the global shipping industry could "grind to a halt" or serious accidents occur because of the extreme pressure on crew, some of whom have not set foot on land for 17 months.Posted On:7-Sep-2020
