KOBC to Offer Financial Support to 10 Shipping Firms The government-backed Korea Ocean Business Corporation (KOBC) is to offer financial support to ten small and medium-sized shipping companies in an effort to help the ailing shipping industry.

Pacific Basin Poised to Tap Into Market Recovery after Returning to Profit Hong Kong-based owner and operator of dry bulk carriers Pacific Basin has returned to the black in the first half of 2018 thanks to the recovery of the dry bulk market. The company booked a net profit of USD 30.8 million, a major rebound when compared to the USD 12 million net loss from the same period in 2017.

New MR Ship Joins Maersk Tankers Fleet Danish tanker owner and operator Maersk Tankers took delivery of its newest MR product tanker, Maersk Callao, on July 27. The 50,000 dwt vessel embarked on its first voyage following delivery from Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Ningbo, China.

Princess Cruises to introduce their most environmentally friendly ships yet Princess Cruises has made an agreement with Italian shipbuilder, Fincantieri S.p.A., to build two new cruise ships powered primarily by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

Dutch Maritime Sector Recovers after Difficult Years A cautious recovery became apparent in the global shipbuilding industry in 2017, especially over the final months of the year. Also the Dutch maritime cluster sees a positive change.
"We can be proud of the many orders that our industry has taken in 2017, despite the many challenges faced," Bas Ort, chair of the Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT) trade association, said.

APL container ship lost 8 containers in Norfolk USA 8 container fell into water from container ship APL ANTWERP in the afternoon Jul 29 during offloading operation, at Norfolk International Container Terminal. 3 containers reportedly sank, 5 were recovered. 3 crew injured by chem leak, medevaced from tanker Three crew members of chemical tanker STELLAR ORCHID were medevaced by helicopter in the morning Jul 28 off Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with chemical burns, and transported to hospital, there s no danger to their lives, all three are of Myanmar nationality. Tanker is en route from Korea to Malaysia, with a short call at Taichung, Taiwan, on Jul 25. What happened and caused chemical leak which injured crew, is unknown. Container ship damaged in collision, Antwerp Container ship HEINRICH SCHEPERS collided with embankment at Doel, Scheldt, Belgium, while entering Antwerp port, at around 0000 UTC Jul 29. Reportedly HEINRICH SCHEPERS sustained hull breach of some 2 meters long, above waterline. HEINRICH SCHEPERS was taken to berth, as of 0400 UTC she was in the same position, berthed at Antwerp.
