Coast Guard Issues Updates On Exam Centers. Noting the need to restart the examination process for mariners to obtain or upgrade credentials, the U.S. Coast Guard s National Maritime Center (NMC) issued updates on efforts to reopen examination facilities, work with the maritime industry on alternative locations and extend credentials.
Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) (national endorsements only) and MMCs with STCW endorsements that expire between March 1 and September 30 were extended until March 31, 2021.Posted On:29-Aug-2020

Singapore : COVID-19: Enhanced crew-changing procedures, new holding and quarantine facilities for seafarers. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Friday (Aug 28) announced a slew of measures to facilitate crew changes and ensure safe port operations, including having shorter stay-home notices for some seafarers and setting up a dedicated holding and quarantine facility for ship crew.

Cargo ship attacked in Gulf of Guinea, probably tanker. Cargo ship was reportedly attacked in the morning Aug 28 in Gulf of Guinea, SW of Lagos Nigeria. According to tracks of ships in the area, it is most probably, tanker PIKE, en route from Lagos to Rotterdam. If PIKE is the ship which was attacked, it doesn t seem like she was boarded, she didn t reduce speed or stop, and as of 0730 UTC is continuing voyage. Probably, attack was thwarted.
