Petro-Piracy Returns to Gulf of Guinea
Nigerian pirates have taken 35 seafarers from vessels in the Gulf of Guinea from January through June 2018, according to a report from security services company EOS Risk Group. The number of sailors removed from vessels and held for ransom was the same as witnessed during the first half of 2017.

Norled Orders Two More Diesel Electric Hybrid Ferries at Remontowa
Norway s ferry company Norled, part of the DSD Group, has ordered two more double ended diesel electric hybrid ferries from Polish Remontowa Shipbuilding, LMG Marin said.

Hoegh LNG Agrees Financing for Ninth FSRU
Norway-based Hoegh LNG has received commitment letters for a USD 177 million debt financing for its ninth floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
The unit, which is under construction at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in South Korea, is scheduled to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2018. Transhipment at Amsterdam seaport down 4.8% in first half of 2018
Transhipment in the North Sea Canal Area at the seaports Amsterdam, IJmuiden, Beverwijk and Zaanstad declined to 49.4 million tonnes in the first half of 2018, a decrease of 5.1%. The Port of Amsterdam saw transhipment fall by 4.8% to 40.2 million tonnes.
In IJmuiden, transhipment declined to 9.3 million tonnes (-4.4%), Beverwijk registered a decline to 282,000 tonnes (-18.6%) and in Zaanstad transhipment fell to 84,000 tonnes (-59.3%).Posted On:3-Aug-2018

Sri Lanka s shipping community agree on anti-corruption policy
Key segments of Sri Lanka s shipping community have agreed on an anti-corruption and zero tolerance policy aimed at cleaning up the trade, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) said in a statement.
Agreement was reached at a meeting initiated by SLPA and Sri Lanka Customs with the members of the Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents and of Sri Lanka Association of Vessel Operators. Green seaports needed in Vietnam to reduce pollution from shipping operations
In many seaports, the content of oil on surface sea water is high. The oil waste from the vessels going in/out of large ports still cannot be collected and treated. In addition, the emissions from vessels produced during fuel combustion also have an impact on the surrounding environment.

Qatar interested in concession of Olvia, Kherson ports
Qatar has showed its interest in concession of Olvia and Kherson seaports, Ukraine s Infrastructure Ministry has reported on its website.

India Allows Domestic Fertilizers Transportation by Foreign Vessels
India s Minister of State for Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan in informed that the Ministry of Shipping has given relaxation to foreign vessels for carriage of fertilizer from one port to another port within the country under section 407 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.

Ro-ro on fire, disabled in the Atlantic
Ro-ro cargo ship VOLCAN DE TENEGUIA suffered fire in engine room on Aug 2 in the Atlantic, and was disabled, some 85 nm north of Gran Canaria, while en route from Cadiz to Tenerife. SAR tug MIGUEL DE CERVANTES (IMO 9320116) was sent to assist, taking VOLCAN DE TENEGUIA on tow in the afternoon. As of 0130 UTC Aug 3 caravan was approaching Las Palmas. Andaman islands ferry troubled, hundreds of passengers rescued, India
Passenger ship SWARAJ DWEEP, serving Andaman and Nikobar islands line, in the morning Jul 2 reported water ingress and requested assistance. The ship stopped roughly halfway between Port Blair and Car Nikobar island, with 343 people on board. Indian Coast Guard sent CG ship and patrol plane to distressed ferry. According to official statement, all passengers were safely transferred to CG ship, while salvage team went on board of a ferry with salvage equipment, including pumps.
