The Ocean Cleanup: Great Pacific Garbage Patch Is Rapidly Growing
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch contains as much as sixteen times more plastic than previously estimated, with pollution levels increasing exponentially. 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic weighing 80,000 metric tons are currently afloat in the area which is rapidly growing, according to a three-year mapping effort conducted by an international team of scientists affiliated with The Ocean Cleanup Foundation, six universities and an aerial sensor company.Posted On:23-Mar-2018

Cepsa: Southern Europe Gets 1st Multi-Product Supply Ship
Spanish oil and gas company Compania Espanola de Petroleos (CEPSA) presented the first multi-product marine fuel supply vessel in southern Europe on March 22. Based in Spain s Port of Huelva, the vessel Oizmendi will provide ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG), in addition to traditional fuels, fuel oils and diesel. The unit has a new fuel measurement system, based on Mass Flow Meters technology, which guarantees the accuracy in the supply of fuel to vessels. It has an LNG load capacity of 600 m3, 1,900 tons of fuel oil and 470 tons of diesel.Posted On:23-Mar-2018

Captain died on board of his ship, Canada
54-year old Captain of Ukrainian nationality died on board of the ship in his command, bulk carrier SAGE AMAZON, in the morning Mar 17, falling from some 2-3 meters height onto his back, and sustaining head injury. Bulk carrier had just arrived at Port Daniel anchorage to wait for cement loading. Paramedics team from CCGS TERRY FOX boarded the ship shortly after accident, but failed to resuscitate the Captain, and he was declared dead. No foul play suspected. As of evening Mar 22, SAGE AMAZON was still at anchor on Port Daniel Anchorage, Quebec province, Gulf of St. Lawrence.Posted On:23-Mar-2018

Cargo ship collided with tanker on Kandla Anchorage
General cargo ship PAC SEGINUS while leaving Kandla port, Gujarat, western India, collided with anchored tanker NAUTICAL GLOBAL XVI on Kandla OTB anchorage at 0514 LT Mar 22. NAUTICAL GLOBAL XVI lost her portside anchor and started to drift, near missing anchored tanker TIGER INTEGRITY (IMO 9760574). Diana Shipping Secures Time Charter for Capesize Bulker
Greece-based Diana Shipping has entered into a time charter contract with SwissMarine Services from Geneva for one of its Capesize dry bulk vessels, the M/V New Orleans. As informed, the gross charter rate for the 180,960 dwt ship is USD 21,000 per day for a period of minimum eleven to maximum thirteen months. BIMCO: Trade War Would Harm Global Shipping
A potential trade war, which could emerge on the back of US recently unveiled tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, would be harmful for the global shipping industry, according to BIMCO. Although the impact of US steel and aluminium tariffs, revealed on March 1 and scheduled to enter into force on March 23, 2018, on shipping is still unknown, a major trade action against China is now also likely to come from the US. Top EU Nations among Worst Performers in Climate Talks
Europe’s top shipping nations have been identified as one of the worst performers in International Maritime Organization s (IMO) maritime climate talks, according to a ranking compiled by Transport & Environment (T&E). The five worst performers in the ranking, based on written and oral submissions to the IMO by EU countries, are Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Portugal and Croatia. Tugspotters.com reported container ship A2B FUTURE grounding at Hoek Van Holland at around 0700 LT Mar 22, when outward ship strayed of fairway. 3 tugs were sent to assist, at around 0910 LT the ship was refloated and taken back berthed at Noordzeeweg, according to AIS. Mar 22: 3 crew were rescued, 1 dead found, and 14 are believed to be trapped inside, some or all of them probably alive and waiting for rescue.
